TDH 3.5 Night Run Event Launch @ Tom, Dick & Harry's, TTDI

Calling upon all of you who care for the society!
Your contribution is needed here, no worries it doesn't involve huge sum of money.

Tom, Dick and Harry (TDH), a place known for good food and alcoholic drinks around the neighbourhood, has something interesting for all of you this time! Run by these 3 shiny headed men, Mr. Bruce Wong, Ernest Ong and Colin Soh, is now organizing a charity run as a contribution to the red ribbon society, or formally known as Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF)

The first night run organized by TDH had recruited only 16 runners in 2 years back, and since then, they have been organizing runs every quarter of a year. Due to the overwhelming responses during the previous  5km 3.0 "Konfirm 'Mou Man Tai'" Night Run in March 2012 where they manage to recruit 700 runners, this time it collaborates with MAF to help raise funds and create awareness of HIV / AIDS.

Come 1st of July 2012, the 5km 3.5 "A 'Mou Man Tai' Life" Night Run is waiting for you here. The organizers reveal that they expect to draw 2000 runners this time, and a carnival will be held on the spot!

Dr. Ilias bin Adam Yee from MAF then explains that HIV faces 2 main challenges: Stigma and Discrimination. Society nowadays just tends to stay away from those who HIV-positive, or we would just ignore these people, thinking that they can no longer contribute to the society. It is so wrong that we must change our perceptions and do something to help them!

We should understand that HIV can only be transmitted in 3 ways: Blood, pregnancy, sex. The most common cause is of course unprotected sex, so all of us are given a pack of TDH branded condoms to keep ourselves reminded that we must be safe than sorry!

The best thing about the run is, you can have free flow of beer after the run! So syok!

Stop the spread of the disease and give a helping hand to those who are suffering from the disease.
Let's spread news of the run for charity on the 1 July 2012.

Ready for the run now? See you on 1 July 2012!

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted @ Pavilion, KL

“I like to move-it-move-it!”

While waiting for the movie to be on screen this 7 June 2012, last few days I went to Pavilion to meet with the fugitives from "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

The whole concourse area is now covered with red carpet, and decorated with myriads of lights. There you can see many posters of your favourite Madagascar cartoon characters, be it Alex the smart lion, Melman the skinny giraffe, Marty the straight zebra, Gloria the plump hippo or even the mighty King Julien!

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is currently having their very own "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" Live Show until 3 June, with two sessions beginning at 3pm and 7pm. Coincidentally, Meet and Greet session with the penguin trio was on the go when I reached Pavilion.

PENGUINS MEET & GREET SESSION
28 May-3 June | 3pm & 7pm

The cute expression of the penguin is so irresistible!

I remember vividly how these 3 tiny penguins help Alex and friends in their adventures in Madagascar 1 & 2. Now I'm wondering what cute stunts will they be doing in upcoming Madagascar 3.

I just wanna run up to the stage to hug the penguins as well. Now you can imagine how huge they are!

Special activities are arranged for the kids too. The bungee trampolines look like so much fun there. I think I can actually get onto that and play as well, if I lose a few more kg on my weight!

ACTIVITIES
1. Bungee Trampolines
2. Kiddie Carousel
3. Mr. Hammer Strength Game
P/S: Free game for the first 50 early birds or 50 Pavilion Junior members daily.

Another school of penguins are exhibited at the main entrance of the shopping mall.
But these balloon penguins don't have the huge tummy which I adore!

Here Gloria looks so cute, with the sweet pink mini skirt. I wanted to take photographs with my favourite lion character but I can't find balloon Alex anywhere in the mall. Perhaps it was a miss there.

All the details you need are here, check it out!

Latin Art Exhibition @ Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar, Bangsar Village I

During last Mother's Day (May 13, 2012), Garibaldi Italian Restaurant and Bar at Bangsar Village I held a Latin Art Exhibition featuring a famous Venezuelan artist, Tony Palacios. The above picture shows the artist and Venezuelan ambassador in Malaysia a few years back for the Venezuelan Week 2008.

I'm lucky to be the photographer of the day, while having the chance to admire the magnificent masterpieces by this talented young man. Garibar, located at the corner overlooking the busy street at Bangsar, is a pleasant place to hangout and I find it relaxing to enjoy the arts here.

There are many happy faces I meet there, all very friendly with smiles craved on their faces.

The themes in his works relate to mysticism, the universe and the world of humans with traces of the sky, stars, planets and outer space. The circle and geometric shapes are central to his works and his use of colours show a power of expression.

Recently Tony Palacios is pursuing his own fashion line, with his deep understanding towards arts. And this piece of man's attire is currently priced at RM400, with Tony's watermark on its sleeve.

Garibar serves each of us bottomless glass of Fruity Cocktail. The sweetness first enters your throat, followed by a burning sensation from the alcohol. You can enjoy the watermelon fruit cuts in it as well.

Some finger food for the guests to munch on.

The bar also places petite servings of Alcoholic Tiramisu for us. Maybe I am just not used to it, because it tastes strong for my liking.

Some filling and very cheesy Canapé would be good for me along with the house specialty sauce. Each piece of sliced baguette bread consists of shrimps and generous amount of cheesy which is served really warm that I can feel the cheese oozing in my mouth immediately!

Brought to you by Tony Palacios.

It's really an eye-opening event (so literally!) and I hope to have more opportunities of being the event photographer in future events! :)

Bai Nien Old Hotpot 百年老火锅 @ Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara

#1 Welcome to the History of 100 years!

This round, our eating place is located along the busy streets at Dataran Sunway, which are congested with many eateries, fashion shops and hardware outlets. Personally I am not a steamboat lover, but I do love the idea of steamboat as something fun to do together, be it a small gathering or family reunion.

#2 Left: Signature Soup (百年老火汤) @ RM8.90
Right: Tom Yam (冬蔭汤) Soup @ FREE

It is named "Bai Nien Old", which literally means 100 years old, because of their Signature Pork Soup which is a house specialty recipe that had been passed down for many generations. It definitely ages more than 100 by now!

Initially their ancestors boil the pork soup with herbs for more than 6 hours, as a health remedy. But now, the young generation has turned it into a steamboat soup base for all to enjoy. With an additional RM8.90, you can taste how great it is!

Note: Clear Soup and Tom Yam Soup is available at no extra charge.

#3 Premier Set Menu (精选套餐) @ RM30.50 per pax

The set menu consists of a basic steamboat platter with an additional meat platter which allows you to choose between sliced pork or sliced beef.

Whereas the Basic Set @ RM16.50 comes with only traditional steamboat ingredients that include fish noodles, fried bean curd skin, prawns, fish slices, dumplings, all kinds of fish balls and vegetables.

#4 Left: Beef (牛肉切片) ; Right: Pork (猪肉切片)

This is included in the premium set menu, or you can order as a separate dish. Both meats are best dipped into the signature soup so that you can really taste how fresh the meat is.

#5 Cooked Pork

Here's a comparison between the raw and cooked slice of pork. You can decide on how well done you want your pork slice to be, and normally I prefer not to overcook it in order to retain the chewiness of the meat.

#6 Fried Lala Mee Hoon (拉拉炒米粉) @ RM28 per kg

Other than eating from the hotpot, we order a large plate of signature seafood meehoon for group sharing. I find that they're using fresh seafood here as its essence is evenly absorbed in the dish. The noodles now become more aromatic than usual, with the natural taste from the seafood.

#7 Hot Dog with Onion (大葱炒香肠) @ RM8.90

While waiting for our hotpot to boil, we munch on some signature side dishes. Mini frankfurters are deep-fried with onions in a Chinese style which leaves the hot dogs with an extra hint of aroma. However, I try only one because I don't normally take food in excessive oil.

#8 Taiwan Sausages (炸台湾香肠) @ RM8.90

The second best selling side orders is the deep-fried Taiwan sausages. It is simply delicious with a crispy outer skin and tastes salty inside. On top of that, I find it non-oily at all and I love it to bits!

#9 Fried Seafood Tofu (炸海鲜豆腐) @ RM6 (Small) / RM12 (Big)

#10 Fried Chicken Wing (炸鸡翅膀) @ RM2.50 per wing

Some crispy fried chicken wings are also great to snack on, especially from the moment of munching through the crispy skin to where the tender meat lies. Dipping it into the sweet spicy sauce is my next choice to enhance the flavours of the wing. Same goes to the seafood tofu above.

#11 Fried Dumpling (炸水饺) @ RM6.50 (Small) / RM13 (Big)

Personally, I love their Homemade Fried Dumpling, not because of how they wrap it themselves but due to the fresh ingredients they use for the filling. The juiciness of the meat inside is simply irresistible and I love the minced meat under the skin which does not clump together.

#12 Chilli paste and fried onions in oil

If you wanna tickle your taste buds a little, the red chilli paste (first one) is good for its mildness in spiciness. However, the dark colored chilli paste (middle one) is extra hot with chunks of cili padi seeds in it! Despite of its spiciness, I'm tempted to take a portion with my seafood to warm up my stomach.

#13 Pandan Cooler (冰冷班兰) @ RM3.00

The glass of icy cold juice is supposed to act as thirst quencher because most of the time we'd feel thirsty after having steamboat. But this time I don't think I need any drinks at all because the soup is just so soothing and in fact it makes my throat feels good!

Verdict:
1. Thumbs up to the restaurateurs for maintaining the good quality of the foodstuff, especially the Signature Pork Soup and raw seafood.
2. Overall, I have a great dining experience here with a bunch of people under a clean, simple ambiance, and most importantly this affordable meal does not burn a hole in my pocket!
3. I'd revisit to check on their new, more diversified menu especially on their homemade side dishes.
