Hoji & Matcha Japanese Cafe @ Sri Petaling

The cafe scene around Klang Valley has been booming lately, and doesn't seem to be showing signs of slowing down. Along the newly-opened shoplots at Sri Petaling next to The Store, I recently found a decent Japanese cafe that reminds me of Nana's Green Tea Cafe at The Gardens.

If you favour minimalism, this cafe offers exactly what you want. Surrounded by white and green walls, the interior is nothing fancy, but it is comfortable enough to enjoy my meal here with bunch of friends.

Iced Matcha Latte Float @ RM11.90 // Iced Matcha Latte @ RM8.90

As the name suggests, the cafe offers a good range of Matcha (Green tea) and Hojicha (Roasted Japanese green tea) beverages with a twist on it--- Soft-served green tea ice cream topping definitely adds brownie points to the drinks here!

Curry Udon with Chicken Karaage @ RM14.90

Unlike other coffee joints that serve coffee and cakes, Hoji & Matcha Japanese Cafe's menu boasts a wide array of hot food ranging from Japanese rice set to udons and snacks. The portion of curry udon here is so generous that it can keep my stomach full from lunch till dinner! Love the well-marinated fried chicken and Japanese soft boiled egg!

Unfortunately, I don't fancy the flavour of the Japanese curry which tastes weird-- a tad rich and spicy-- plus it is lacking of the right consistency. It could be a winning taste if the gravy is thicker, milder and lightly sweet.

 Okonomiyaki @ RM13.90

As for my favourite Japanese pancake, it is presented beautifully with bonito flakes and Japanese mayonnaise and completes the wholesome combination of the lovely batter and shredded cabbage.

Unfortunately, perhaps I am rather sensitive with seasonings as I think the chef
must have been overzealous with his application of MSG during my visit.

DESSERT TIME!
Parfait!!! If you are a fan of Nana's Green Tea cafe, now you'd know where to
find equally good (and cheaper!) desserts without having to go to Mid Valley already

At the front part of the cafe, I'm overwhelmed with various choices of Japanese snacks, sauces and green tea on the rack. I did not really check on the price tags, but I think it is pretty convenient to get my favourite snacks here instead of Shojikiya food kiosk.

Verdict:
1. A pretty decent cafe to satisfy your Japanese cravings around the neighbourhood.
2. The hot food items need to be improved in order to keep customers returning for more.
3. Recommended for those who love fancy beverages, parfaits and ice creams.

First HALAL Botox Cream in Malaysia

Being young and beautiful is every woman's dream, don't you agree? And the quickest, easiest way to achieve youthfulness is of course Botox injection. Well, Botox is secretly on my wishlist, because I want to get rid of the dark eye circles and aging skin too. The only reason that holds me back from this aesthetics treatment is I don't take injection!

.....after years of having the same wish, finally now my dream comes true! :D Have you ever heard of Botox without injection? *drumrolls* Mz Secret has finally come up with latest development of botox technology that you don't need injection anymore!

Trip to Kuching, Sarawak: Day 1

Courtesy to Borneo Soap (Facebook: fb.com/borneosoap), I was invited to an exclusive trip to Kuching, the land where this luxury handmade soap is born. It was kind of a private "discovery" trip as the CEO only brought me and Kak Ella, another blogger from KL to Sarawak.

Well, what is it to be "discovered"? Continue reading to know more!

The morning flight was smooth, and we settled at Dormani Hotel before exploring the town. The sponsor was really generous to give us one room each, fairly decent and comfortable for me to spend a night staying there. Plus, the room has such strong WiFi connection that I can type a blog post during the night itself!

Location wise, it is ideal for tourists and locals alike. Many tourist attractions are within walking distance from Dormani Hotel such as the popular Sarawak Museum, the old City Mosque, Islamic Centre, Satok Market and Kuching Waterfront.

The first place to visit is of course the Borneo Soap factory. I was excited as I had not been to any soap factory before, plus the one we were heading to was all about hand-making soaps! Time to be amazed with the excellent craftsmanship and quality ingredients.

If you remember my first encounter with Borneo Soap last May, surely you'd have heard of the goodness of their organic soap and skincare products.  Made of natural ingredients native to the rainforest of Borneo, they are heralded for their healing, therapeutic properties and long used by the indigenous people of Borneo in their bath and beauty rituals.

From extracting the ingredients to packaging the soaps, I notice that attention to detail and quality is given to each and every blend of the organic handmade soaps. Despite of the painstaking process of getting the raw ingredients from the jungle and rural areas, Borneo Soap has never compromised with the quality as it believes in making rare gems that everyone can enjoy daily.

The whole range of Borneo Soap products include body bath, facial bar, foot soap and feminine wash

All soaps here are enriched with Goat’s Milk and vitamins to provide a luxurious cleansing experience. Borneo Soap is now available at Metrojaya Mid Valley KL and Metrojaya CityOne Kuching. Online purchases via www.borneosoap.com will be entitled for FREE delivery within Malaysia.

There goes my office tour to Borneo Soap, I'm currently using the Beras Bario soap,
and it really whitens the skin alot! Try it to feel the difference yourself :)

After a sumptuous seafood lunch, we went back to the hotel to freshen up
before attending a high-tea party in the afternoon and meet Syamin Jasmi!!

Courtesy to CQ Music, we were invited to the exclusive preview of official music video "Lagi dan Lagi" by Syamin Jasmi, the first talent managed by CQ Music at Riverside Majestic Hotel. Syamin is a young homegrown talent from Kuching, and now he records his very first song!

And gosh, he looks SO cute in real life!

Well, I don't normally sing Malay song, but I kinda get addicted to his song after that afternoon and keep singing after that! The travelling mates keep teasing me about this HAHA, I can't wait to meet Syamin again in KL ;)

Lagi Dan Lagi is a sentimental love song about a heartbroken guy, composed by Ajai,
a famous local musician. Don't forget to watch his Youtube music video HERE!

After a well-spent afternoon, it's time for dinner hunting in Kuching! I really wanted to try out the local Malay cuisine here, and the team recommends us Barong Tinuk (Tel: 082-237551 / 019-8188145), a local restaurant that offers loads of local delicacies which I probably have not heard before!

Nasi Goreng Dabai ❤ / Sayur Midin Masak Sambal Belacan

Instead of the usual Nasi Goreng Kampung, we opt for the fried rice with exotic "black olive" famous in Sarawak. The dish is so simple, yet well-packed with fragrant Dabai flavours. Dabai is a seasonal fruit which you may only get them once in a year, so be sure to bring some home if you travel from far to Sarawak!

 Linut with Sambal Belacan  (RECOMMENDED!)

I bet lots of Sarawakians have not heard of Linut! I am glad to try this traditional food by the Melanau ethnic group here. Freshly made of the fresh sago flour by mixing with boiling hot water, Linut has a very unique texture! Very gooey and sticky but not as thick as glutinous rice. Best served hot with a dip of spicy sambal belacan.

Umai Ikan with sweet savoury dip

Another traditional Melanau side dish is the umai that comes in a choice of fish or prawn. This reminds me of Chinese festive Yee Sang (鱼生)! Thick slices of raw fish should be well-mixed with shredded vegetables and zesty lime juice to get rid of the fishy odour.

I'm surprised that the fish serves here is so fresh that I can eat them raw without any condiment/sauce. In fact, all the food items here are freshly prepared and CHEAP! If you're craving for some local tastes, this simple neighbourhood restaurant is highly recommended for family gatherings and casual meals.

Well, that's the end of Day 1. Wondering what did I do in Day 2?
I flew to another part of Sarawak for more adventurous journey!
Stay tuned on my next post ;)

Dream Trip to Macau

Life is an adventure. For the past month, I have been travelling around Malaysia and our neighbouring country. In every new place I visit, I always snap zillion shots of photos, and keep counting my blessing for being able to spend my days there.

Now, courtesy to Macau Government Tourist Office, the lucky few will be going for a 3 days 2 nights trip to Macau! Are you excited? Well, I AM! I have heard of this culture-rich country from lots of my friends, but I have not made my footprint there before...

It is better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times, don't you agree? That's why I'm secretly hoping Macau to be my next travel destination. The magnificent 400-years-old churches, ancient temples and colonial fortresses are worth visiting especially for avid photographers. I can't imagine how many hundreds of pictures will I take if I were there!

Ruins of St Paul’s (Ruínas de São Paulo / 大三巴牌坊)

Macau may be small but the Historic Centre of Macau featuring over 20 buildings are proudly standing as UNESCO World Heritage sites, how can I not explore these amazing tourist spots and be fascinated by the story behind each and every unique heritage!

Senado Square (Largo do Senado / 議事亭前地)

Take a mere 10 minutes walk away from St Paul's, and you'll arrive at this most happening paved townsquare in Macau city! Looking at the pictures of Macau alone, I believe it would be an exciting trip to experience the unique touch of Portugal, blended with ancient and modern China.

Macau-Taipa Bridge (Ponte Governador Nobre de Carvalho /嘉樂庇總督大橋)
The nightview here from the oldest bridge in Macau is equally mesmerizing!

The House of Dancing Water

Apart from the happening nightlife, I actually Googled about this truly breathtaking entertainment live show exclusively in Macau! A never-been-seen-before production that combines theater, dance, gymnastic artistry and high-performance diving to present an enchanting cornucopia of water, light, colour and fire. It'd be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I must try :D

Most popular dessert in Macau: Pastéis de nata (Portuguese egg tarts)

But wherever I go, the food is the most important element among all! Speaking of food in Macau, the first thing that comes into mind is the infamous Macau Portuguese egg tarts which are available at almost every street corner!

Among the varieties of cuisine such as Portuguese, Chinese and international, the Macanese is one that attracts me the most. People say it's a unique blend of southern Chinese and Portuguese cuisines, but I really want to try and see how different it is from our local Chinese food!

Oh did I forget to mention Macau has all year round events and festivals? And the largest Macau Food Festival is happening in November! Time to be spoilt with delicious Asian, European, Mainland Chinese and local delicacies, while enjoying live entertainment and games along the street.

Shoppes at Venetian (Luxurious indoor shopping mall)

Wow! Look at this shopping haven with wonderful architectural designs, I can enjoy the best of both worlds here-- Shopping and photographing! In addition to shopping, I'd wish to meet the colourful antics of Streetmosphere performers and jugglers, ‘living statues’ and musicians as they wander the meandering Venetian streetscapes.

In fact, there are many more beautiful places to explore in Macau!

With over 17 direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Macau weekly and convenient sea and land routes,
I'm sure my next trip to Macau is made easier and hassle-free. No VISA needed too!

Dear Macau, I hope to visit you really soon! Be sure to welcome me with warm hugs then :P

Unicorn Café @ Bangkok

I got really excited when I know there is this cafe in Bangkok with a fairytale theme of unicorn. Well, if you're in love with pastel shades, cute desserts and colorful unicorns, I think this Unicorn Cafe is a must-visit place in Bangkok!

Even the exterior of the cafe is so eye catching!

How to get there: Take BTS to Chong Nonsi station, get down on the street where there is a 7-Eleven mart and Unicorn Cafe is only 5 minutes walk away before you arrive at the corner of this hidden row of shops. Well, Google maps definitely helps!

Upon entering this cozy cafe, I feel like a little girl being wowwed in the land of fantasy.

Look up to the ceiling, the sky of galaxy is awaiting you.

Here it feels as I'm in a miniature-sized Disneyland! It is totally a different reality abundant with undulating pastel hues, hot pink upholstery, stuffed unicorn dolls, and a glistening chandelier centerpiece.

Its tangible delights include a variety of pastel-colored and rainbow sweet treats--- the signature rainbow sponge cake (120 THB), cupcake (75 THB), and crêpe cake (140 THB).

Pricewise, I find it pretty similar to any dessert shop you find in KL.
They even have pastel rainbow macaron at 350 THB per piecce!

Glancing at the beverages menu, I can imagine how colorful they are to complement with the desserts in this wonderland. Interestingly, the fizzy Italian soda (70 THB) comes in Galaxy and Cotton Candy flavours, how cool right!

Brownie Shortcake (80 THB)

Well, I have been eating all the way along the streets in Bangkok,
therefore my stomach can probably stuff in another slice of cake before I go sugar high.

I love how the owner designs each dessert with a touch of unicorn element!
Mine is topped with an edible unihorn--- an upside sugar cone in pastel shade.

Layered between fluffy cream, the chocolate brownie itself is moist and slightly overcloying for me.
Plus, the sweetness is enhanced by the cocoa powder dusting as the topping.

And yes, I'm enjoying my dessert at this pink sofa with a bunch of unicorns!

The corner of the cafe is decorated with a simple display of unicorn merchandise for sale.
They all look way too magical there!

Verdict:
1. I love its unique concept and pretty ambiance that make every picture more Instagram-worthy!
2. Honestly, desserts here have nothing to shout about, but I will jump in excitement with so many unicorns surrounding me.
3.  Location wise, it is pretty easy to find even for travellers, and this cafe is worth visiting if you're a girly girl like me :P
