DirectD Opens The Largest Gadget Megastore in Malaysia!

Back then in 2013, I bought my first Samsung Note 2 from DirectD Store in SS15 (near Asia Cafe). It was only a two-storey shoplot at that time but was often flooded with customers. In just a couple of years, DirectD has expanded and now dubbed as the largest mobile phone shop in Malaysia

To provide more convenience and better shopping experience to customers, DirectD has recently opened a new gadget megastore in PJ Old Town industrial area, facing Federal Highway. I was there for its grand opening to grab RM1 power banks and RM10 mobile phones (for first 100 customers only)!

Stepping into DirectD Gadget Mega Store, the place is amazing! Unlike any ordinary mobile shop, Directd occupies a huge 18,000 square feet space with more than 300 different gadgets for sales! While waiting to be served at the service counter, customers can feel free to sit back and enjoy free Wi-Fi there.

From the entrance, you'll notice the live display of over 100 smartphones and tablets
by international brands-- Acer, Apple, Asus, HTC, Honor, Huawei, Intel, Lenovo, LG, Meizu,
Microsoft, Oppo, Samsung, Sony and Xiaomi-- for you to test on, before making any purchase :)

They even sell the limited edition 24K Gold iPhone6 here!

Directd also spoils us with choices of more than 1000 varieties of accessories
such as memory card, case, screen protector and powerbank to choose from.

Looking for any brand and model? You name it, they have it!

Power banks comes in any color and size you want!

Honestly I've never seen such a comprehensive, one-stop gadget store in my life! DirectD even offers telecommunication services to cater for your telco needs. If you are using YES, Maxis, DiGi or U-Mobile, you can settle everything under one roof--- From bill payment, package and bundling subscription, up to prepaid services and change of plans.

The best thing here is: the more you buy, the more you can save! I'm impressed that they even systematic "I'm Member" Redemption Counter in the store to bring year-round deals to the loyal members.

Once again, congratulations for the grand opening of DirectD Gadget Mega Store!

Overall, it is an ideal place for gadget shopping if you are seeking for great value-for-money, after-sale services, convenience and quality. Now you can avoid the heavy traffic in SS15 stores, and head down to PJ instead!

Franco Malaysia @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre

Formerly known as Miam Miam, the renamed Franco Malaysia has gained much popularity since its first opening in 1 Utama shopping mall and people are willing to queue for 2 whole hours just to have a try on its signature French-Japanese fusion cuisine. Now the queue is very much lesser as Franco has opened many outlets around The Curve, IOI City Mall, Penang and more to come.

Due to the massive crowd on a Saturday evening, the restaurant gets quite stuffy and I don't quite like the noisy atmosphere that disrupts the conversation at every table. I understand why service gets slow at this hour, so be early and wait patiently for the food to be served :)

BEVERAGES
Hot Matcha Latte @ RM10.80 / Iced Matcha Latte @ RM11.80

Even the mineral water / sparkling water here comes with a price tag of RM9.80, so we may as well opt for some self-claimed superior quality green tea beverages. It uses stone grinded top grade Japanese green tea. I love my Matcha latte; so full-bodied, aromatic and delicately steamed with milk.

HOT FOOD
Franco's Spaghetti Yumeina @ RM26.90

For something warm and comforting, tuck into the all-time favourite plate of spaghetti prepared in Japanese style. What makes it a standout is Franco's secret broth, Japanese shoyu that alleviates the dry pasta and brings extra flavour to the dish!

Tossed with French butter, the pasta is cooked al dente and pairs well with sauteed frankfurters, tomatoes, baby spinach and smoked turkey ham. Not forgetting to mention the Onsen egg that oozes out its golden goodness when stirred with the ingredients.

Famous French Toast @ RM16.80

My curiosity arises from the description on the menu: "An absolute must-have! Don't ask, just order." Well, almost every table orders this, so I, too, must give it a try. Served with a big dollop of chilled whipped cream and maple syrup, the legendary toast is soft, fluffy and melts in the mouth with eggy and buttery aroma! Definitely a crowd pleaser!

Be sure to savour the thickly-sliced toast with generous amount of whipped cream. otherwise it may be tad dry and tasteless. Being a dish loaded with carbs and sugar, it may get heavy on the palate and one can't possibly finish all 6 pieces of toast by oneself, therefore sharing is recommended.

DESSERT
Matcha Souffle @ RM16.80

Another must-have dessert is the perfectly baked souffle, which rises above the brim and forms a firm crust on top. A gentle poke into the souffle then reveals an incredibly smooth interior made of homemade vanilla custard and light, airy meringue.

With a touch of top grade Matcha powder, green tea souffle is more aromatic and less sweet for my liking. Definitely a must-have for green tea lovers!

Verdict:
1. Taste wise, it is acceptable for me but I find it overrated and does not worth the queue.
2. Since it is dubbed as a "fine casual dining" restaurant, the service needs plenty of improvement.
3. Revisit? Probably not. I'd rather go for plenty of good desserts at much affordable price out there.

WichDay Cafe @ Taman Connaught, Cheras

The cafe business in the busy neighbourhood of Taman Connaught at Cheras may not be as brisk as those in PJ or KL, but we have recently found one that is worth visiting without burning a hole in the pocket.

WichDay Cafe, named after its famous sandwiches and toasts, is easily noticeable from the main road. But finding a parking here can be tricky especially during weekdays.

It feels like a dreamland here! Be greeted by a medley of colorful carousel-inspired decors adorning every corner of the cafe, surrounded by painted walls with hand-drawn carousel images.

This cute themed cafe is more family-friendly and its cosy little space is perfect for those who would like to have birthday parties or special functions for their little ones.

Iced Mocha @ RM10.90 / Iced Green Tea Latte @ RM9.90

Don't expect to have specially crafted hand-brewed coffee here but the basic coffee staples are decent enough to satisfy your daily dose of caffeine.

For those who don't take coffee, plenty of choices are available ranging from hot tea, fruit juices to the house special chocolate blends. My creamily thick green tea latte is fairly priced, and I enjoy the bittersweet aftertaste of the Japanese-imported green tea powder.

Among the hot food items, the highly recommended ones are dessert toasts including banana chocolate, nutella peanut, green kaya lava and green tea toast.
Wich Toasting Day @ RM13.90

A nice variation from the usual English breakfast platter, WichDay serves the hearty combination of cheese-layered chicken ham, fried egg, sauteed mushrooms and baked beans on a slice of thick toast.

The toast itself is heavily buttered, soft and melts perfectly in the mouth. But I find it a tad salty and doesn't pair well with the honey drizzles on the side.

Pandora Box @ RM16.90

For dessert toast, Pandora Box is definitely a must-try! Crowned with airy, whipped cream, we are surprised by the generous toppings of the crispy baked toast box such as two scoops of ice creams, marshmallows, chewy glutinous rice balls and fruits.

Open it up by cutting both corners of the toast, and you'll find honey-sweet crispy cubed toast in it. It reminds me of bread croutons in terms of texture and size but it falls heavier on the buttery and sweet tastes.

I love how it retains its crispiness despite of being left for some time.

What a beautiful mess!

Miss Pinky (Rose Pancake)

Fascinated by the beautifully presented mini pancakes topped with lychee, strawberry, maple syrup and raspberry ice cream, I realize it's my first time having pink pancakes!

The sweet color comes from rose syrup, which adds a nice touch to the soft, crisp-edged pancakes. It already tastes great on its own but if you prefer a sweeter version, a drizzle of maple syrup will definitely do a great job.

Apart from homemade cakes, they also serve pasta and value set lunches, if you need something more filling. But I'd prefer having different flavours of toasts during my next visit!

Verdict:
1. Definitely a cheaper alternative for cafe hoppers who love desserts and toasts.
Coupled with friendly staff, quick service and homey ambiance, I am a happy customer here.
2. Food wise, the quality is acceptable for the price and portion served.
3. Recommended: Pandora Box, Rose Pancake, Signature Toasts

Croissant Delicatessen @ Plaza Damas

After the recent waffle craze, now we see something different in the current food trend. At Plaza Damas, we come across Croissant Delicatessen, the gourmet croissant sandwiches specialist that combine both pastry and sandwich into one wholesome meal.

From the croissant and its fillings, to the coffee and cakes, Croissant Delicatessen takes pride in its ingredients because everything is made from scratch. Freshly baked croissants come laden with vegetables, sauces and main toppings of your choice such as smoked salmon, tuna, turkey ham, German bratwurst sausage, scrambled egg and mayo.

For now, the menu boasts 6 types of savoury croissant and a dessert croissant that are all distinctive in flavours and suitable for breakfast or any other part of the day. For instance, supreme egg mayo croissant sandwiches layered with boiled egg, cheese and drizzles of mayonnaise is a to-die-for version of the traditional egg mayo sandwich.

The bestseller is Ocean Tuna that surprises seafood lovers as the combination of fresh chunky tuna and instant kick of wasabi will work wonder! The owner continuously improve his current recipes and add new items on board very soon.

Lunch deal here is amazing, you only need to top up RM3 for the soup of the day and lemonade to complete your set lunch. Plus, recently they are having 50% OFF for ALL coffee

Seats are pretty limited in the cafe, but cosy ambiance is good enough for a satisfying meal.

COFFEE
Green Tea Latte @ RM9 / Waterberry Juice @ RM11

Coffee, tea and juices are staples in this cafe. We try the freshly juiced watermelon and strawberries, a refreshing concoction that wakes up every soul especially during midday. Green tea latte is pretty decent, for the green tea lovers who can't take strong coffees.

SAVOURY
Garlic Croissant @ RM5

If you'd love to have your croissant plain, here you can try flavoured croissants without any fillings. In total, there are 4 types of signature croissants-- Classic, garlic, pumpkin, wasabi

The plain ones allow you to really savour the crisp-edged, airy texture, accompanied with faint aroma of garlic, pumpkin or wasabi. Interestingly, it certainly makes the croissant tastes better and more enjoyable!

Garlic and Basil Chicken Croissant Sandwich @ RM16.80

For a good, tummy- satisfying brunch, I'd personally recommend the healthy combination of garlic and basil chicken. Spread with mustard, the warm crispy croissant is filled with basil-coated lean chicken cubes, thick chunks of cheese and vegetables.

The croissant, by itself, is a winning taste because I love its light and less greasy texture. A nice crunch at the first bite is followed by soft, sheet-thin flaky layers that exude nice buttery aroma with a hint of mustard.

SWEET
For the sweet tooth, this cafe serves gourmet ice cream from The Last Polka and homemade cakes that are specially crafted by a close friend of the owner.

Mixed Berries Chantilly @ RM14.80

But of course, you shouldn't miss the wonderful berries chantilly croissant with delicious filling of fresh strawberry, blueberry and sweetened whipped cream on a spread of sinful nutella.

Don't expect it to be the usual sweet type of dessert because it is drizzled with tangy passion fruit sauce that gives an instant lift to the dish! Plus, the chantilly cream is not excessive, but just the right amount to complement the fruits.

It is located between Subway and Pastryville, just a few doors away from Starbucks which is accessible from the back exit of Hartamas shopping mall. Alternatively, it is on the row opposite Naked. Croissant Delicatessen accepts cash only for now.

Verdict:
1. A very interesting concept of croissant sandwiches! I love my food being prepared fresh, made-to-order and customizable according to my taste.
2. The croissant pastry is amazing by itself, with the right texture and taste; while the generous proportion of filling adds brownie points to it.
3. If you'd love a taste for the modern interpretation of croissant and sandwich, Croissant Delicatessen is the right place to visit.
