Note To Self: For A Better 2016

Warning: Very lengthy and wordy personal post ahead
Let's take a quick glance on what had happened throughout 2015!

Dessert, dessert and more desserts! Did I really eat that much in 2015? LOL. Since you guys love my dessert posts so much, I am going to post more of these in 2016 :P

But looking back at all 232 blog posts throughout the year (Wow I didn't know I'm so hardworking in updating this blog!), it took me a while to recall what had I done or achieved so far. Then I realise 2015 was not bad at all :)

January: 2015 began well with the biggest Party of The Century (Blogged: HERE)
where I met Him Law and plenty of Hong Kong and Taiwanese artists.

February: It was all about celebrating Chinese New Year with friends and family (Blogged: HERE), but we received an unfortunate news that we would never be able to meet my uncle again. Thanks for looking after me so well for the past 22 years :')

March: Was having finals this month, hence slowed down on work. Nevertheless, it was a great collaboration with Philips for its beauty gadget, truly one of my most favourite tools till now (Blogged: HERE)

April and MayThe year continued with a lot more blogging-related work which required more commitment from me while juggling between my full-time and part-time studies 7 days a week. I couldn't recall any moment that I could actually take a break. So yeah my schedule was crazy, and I literally worked like a machine. On the bright side, it meant more tummy-satisfying cafe hopping sessions for me (Blogged: HERE)

June: Unofficially graduated from MMU as a Bachelor degree holder after spending 5 years there.
Not the best result I could achieve, but I was pretty satisfied as the efforts were well paid off :)

June: Short vacation to Bali, one of my favourite beach holidays during my short break (Blogged: HERE)

July: Managed to work with one of my favourite brands, HONDA (Blogged: HEREwhich treated us a fun day out. And it was my first experience playing watersports such as flyboarding, jet skiing and stand-up paddling. Thanks for the opportunity and amazing memories with the bloggers!

August: Did a hair makeover like finally! I kinda miss my bright burgundy hair now (Blogged: HERE

September: Official graduation was what I had been looking forward to. Felt really thankful for having my family, close friends and university mates to celebrate this special day together. And thank you CPA Australia for presenting me the Book Prize award as one of the best accounting students! (Blogged: HERE

October: Visited my dreamland, Hello Kitty Town in JB. Imma die-hard Hello Kitty fan
if you do not already know :P Thanks for the fun moments, girls! (Blogged: HERE

October: One of the best collaborations of the year is being a blogger ambassador for Number76 Hair Saloon! It really makes a difference when my hair is being taken good care by the team at Starhill Gallery outlet. Can't wait for my next hair makeover before the upcoming Chinese New Year!

P/S: Check out my new sidebar banner for Number76!

November: My favourite month of the year because it was my birthday!

Thank you Seeties, Grand Millennium KL and Resort Suites Bandar Sunway for the amazing stays during my birthday week. Special thanks to those who celebrated my birthday,I felt so blessed to have you guys around (Blogged: HERE

But life just gave me lemon when days were the happiest for me. I was involved in my very first car accident two days after my birthday, and was admitted to the hospital for a night. Definitely not a great time for me when I had to deal with the insurance, the police etc. I promise to be more careful in 2016!!

December: Sat for the remaining 3 ACCA papers, recovered well and it finally allowed me to call for another vacation. Siem Reap, Cambodia is indeed a heaven for all photographers. Spending a week there made me realise there are lots more unfortunate ones in this world, and we should be grateful for whatever we have in life, no matter how difficult life can be at times.

Overall, 2015 has treated me fairly well. I didn't realise I have achieved so much until I do a self-reflection. Thank you each and every of you for supporting my blog, thank you clients for being so patient with me throughout the year, thank you my family and close friends for the unconditional support and care. And thank you God for showering me with lots of love from people I met.

Referring to my post one year ago: New Year’s Resolution: 15 Do's and Don'ts In 2015, I think I only managed to achieve less than half of them! Time to work on them in 2016 perhaps? *procrastinating much?* LOL.

Every year begins with a fresh, blank page of a 365-page book and I always promise myself that I'd write a good one. I learn that it is never too late to become the person you always hope you could be, to love the way you have always wanted to love, to travel to the place you always wish to be.

As life is a learning process, I hope 2016 will be more fruitful and filled with happiness

8 Do's in 2016

1. Blog More Often like Good Ol' Times
I feel sorry when this blog is becoming a site with more and more ads. I am not sure how many of you actually read my personal posts, but to be honest, I still prefer writing my own personal stuff. I hope this year I can craft more posts that talk about myself, my daily life or just random things I've been through.

2. Care More About People Around Me

Life is not just about yourself. More often than that, I tend to care too much about people or things that I shouldn't, and neglect those who actually deserve better. So I just want to spare more time caring about my dearest family and friends who have cared so much about me all this while.

3. Spend Time Wisely
Well, this sounds very vague. Everyone has different definitions of spending time wisely, some may think spending time to earn more money is "wise" while others may think taking some travelling time is "wiser". It depends entirely on yourself, really.

To me, I just want to stop wasting time on people, things or events that do not worth my effort. Every second ticks by and there is no rewind, hence living life to the fullest and make it worthwhile is important :)

4. Do What You Deserve
When someone treats you like you are just one of many options, help them narrow their choice by removing yourself from the equation. It's not pride-- It's self-respect. I am learning to not give part-time people a full-time position in my life, and never settle for anything less. One day, I believe I'll meet one who sees me as a choice and not as an option. *fingers crossed*

5. Set a Goal and Work Towards It
Goodbye to the student life, it is time for me to get a proper job and work towards the next goal in life. Earning more money and travelling further are definitely in my list of resolution!

6. Have a Better Health
I realise I fall sick a lot during 2015, especially approaching year end. It really didn't feel good, and I had to put my work at halt for a couple of weeks because of that. Hope to take better care of myself and stay healthy in 2016!

7. Treat Myself Better
Honestly, I have been overworking myself for the past year. Believe it or not, I have been attending classes in 2 different universities, for 7 days a week. Along with the blogging jobs and events to attend, I could hardly breathe. It is a really bad idea, thus now I am learning to slow down a little and enjoy the process of living each day more :)

8. Get into a Relationship
I always say my life is too hectic for a relationship. But as I grow older (LOL sounds old, really!), I realise there is no one person on Earth who can be "too busy" for another person. It is just a matter of whether he/she is willing to take up this commitment and sacrifice along the way.

Anyway, HAPPY 2016!!! Let's toast for a better year ahead!

"Toy Bank, A Gift of Love" Gift Presentation @ Cheras Leisure Mall

Christmas has just passed, so is the season of gifting. Do you remember this giant Toy Bank at Cheras Leisure Mall which I have blogged HERE? It was set up since 4 December 2015 to collect gifts of love for over 400 children from 13 children’s homes and charity houses, as part of the mall’s annual programme—“Toy Bank, A Gift of Love”.

If you do not already know, this programme has been an annual tradition for PPB Group Berhad since year 1999 to express their care and love towards underprivileged children. Fortunately, every year there are many regular donors who contribute the gifts to the community, and they also bring along more friends to join this good cause.

Colourful wish cards bearing the children’s Christmas wishes are displayed at the wishing tree. And generous donors can pick any card, select a toy or gift from child’s wishlist and then deposit the gift together with the wish card at the Toy Bank.

Look at the large amount of gifts on stage! This Toy Bank programme is indeed successful as it manages to collect 2,700 gifts throughout the month, along with numerous donations of household necessity items from the shoppers.

The participating homes which will be rewarded this Christmas include Shepherd’s Centre Foundation, Trinity Community Children’s Home, Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua dan Kanak-kanak WP, Pusat Jagaan Beribuan Kasih, Kajang, Bodhi Homecare Cheras, San Pedro Orphanage Home, Rumah Sayangan, Rumah Kanak-kanak Angels, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Cornerstone, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Rainbow Home, Rumah Bakti Nur Syaheera and Pusat Majudiri Y for the Deaf.

To celebrate the Toybank programme this year, a gift presentation ceremony is held at Cheras Leisure Mall, with the presence of 165 children from the participating homes. The kids are treated for a special movie screening of “Legend of a Rabbit: The Martial of Fire” at GSC, followed by buffet lunch at the mall.

Happy tummies give more cheer to the children!

Christmas Caroling performance
Of course, this enjoyable day is not complete without some interesting dance performances from the little ones and adults.

 Hip hop dance performance

Hoverboard dance performance; It looks so cool right!

The kids even get to try out the hoverboard with the guidance of the hoverboard dancers.

The special appearance of Santa Bear further alleviates the joy and cheer among the children!

The event concludes with the gift presentation ceremony by Ms Eva Hew, Assistant General Manager, Marketing & Promotion (Retail), Property Division, PPB Group Berhad to the respective children from each home.

I am sure the kids are overjoyed to receive their presents!

They also have a group photo session before the children head home and start unboxing the presents they receive.

Restaurant Soft Shell Crab Specialist (亚洲软壳蟹皇) @ Seri Kembangan

Fresh seafood is common in KL/PJ, but good quality ones require a little bit of hunting. If you are craving for some live seafood with unique preparation methods, then Soft Shell Crab Specialist Restaurant outside The Mines Shopping Mall is the right place to go.

The restaurant has many aquariums for our friends from the sea. The seafood are all alive, and you can choose which one you want from the aquarium itself. The owner of this Chinese restaurant even has his own aquafarm in Sabah to rear soft shell crabs. Therefore, only the mature and high quality crustaceans are transported to KL for our enjoyment.

It definitely sets a high expectation on the quality of soft shell crabs here :)

Like most Chinese restaurants, there are 3 dining sections here --- Private rooms (For reservation only), main dining hall with air-conditioning, and outdoor al-fresco dining.

Chef's Special Soft Shell Crab (茶具软壳蟹)

First timers must try the signature soft shell crabs here, served crisp in golden brown perfection, along with mini cups of salad and a Chinese pot of secret sauce. The beautiful presentation further lifts up my expectation towards this dish.

Just pour a cup onto your own plate, top it with a piece of soft shell crab and drizzle with the sweet tangy sauce, and enjoy it at one bite. Once entered into the mouth, the combination explodes with a nice refreshing tang and crunchiness. The balance of flavour and texture is simply perfect.

Steamed Prawns in Chinese Herbs (堂煲草虾)

Another fresh seafood dish that is equally noteworthy is the pot of prawns steamed in a herbal broth loaded with Angelica Sinensis (当归), chilli, ginger, and wolfberries. It is cooked in a flat pot in front of customers for 10-15 minutes before the aluminium foil is removed and served to diners.

This dish allows us to savour the true freshness of the prawn,
along with a nice spicy kick that is well-infused through the shells.

Steamed Chicken (葫芦吊水鸡)

To complement our seafood dinner, we order a whole bird, marinated and cooked in a traditional method that is more time-consuming but the result is indeed not disappointing at all. Unlike the usual steamed or salt-baked chicken, this is slowly steamed using the vapour of boiling Chinese herbal broth.

Under high-heat slow cooking, it yields more aromatic, herb-infused meat with smooth, fluffy texture and the moisture of the chicken is well-retained. Highly recommended!

Signature Braised Claypot Pork Leg (招牌沙煲猪手)

Our porky dish is also tummy-comforting and good to go with a steaming bowl of white rice as the sticky caramelized sauce coats each tender slab of slow-cooked pork leg very well. Every piece is so heavenly, as it melts perfectly in the mouth!

Stir-fried Kailan with Hong Kong Preserved Veggies (招牌梅菜炒港芥兰)

As for the vegetable, this is another chef's recommended dish-- Tender crisp Chinese broccoli pairs well with sweet preserved veggies to exude an extra savoury punch with slight spicy finish on the palate. Delicious!

Claypot Beggar Rice (生煲乞丐饭)

Looking at the name of the rice dish, it sounds very interesting. But what excites me is the combination of rice with soft egg white bits, spring onions and loads of crispy pork lard.

Usually it is served individually in mini claypots, but due to time factor, we have everything cooked in a huge claypot. Nevertheless, the flavour of crispy pork lard lends a delicious aroma to the overall dish. It could be better if the rice can be cooked a little longer to give more crispiness to the rice bits.

Here's a map to guide you to the restaurant :)

Verdict:
1. Overall, the seafood here is very well-known for its freshness and unique way of cooking, created by the award-winning chef here.
2. Recommended dishes: Chef's Special Soft Shell Crab, Claypot Beggar Rice
3. Reason to visit: Fresh live seafood (especially soft shell crab) at affordable price

Fashion Haul from TaggyMatto

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

Do you like my new piece of Pleated Skirt in Maroon? New year is always my favourite time for shopping as many fashion outlets start replenishing their stores with the latest trends in town. One of my current favourite online stores is TaggyMatto, a relatively new one based in Pahang.

Unlike other European or Korean-inspired stores, I personally find that most of TaggyMatto's clothes selection exudes a different style of glamour in simplicity.

Well, it is pretty close to my interpretation of sophisticated style. The fashion pieces are more clean-cut and refined. The fabric is versatile and of high quality. Colour combinations are chic and crisp. It is easier to pull off a stylish look and enjoy looking more arty and playful from time to time.

Let's check out what I've gotten to renew your wardrobe for 2016!

Cropped Suede Shirt in Purple

Love this piece made of special fabric that feels comfortable and airy. Perfect for casual cafe hopping date!

Hedging Sweater in Beige @ RM49

I have seen plenty of soft cream, beige and ivory tones making appearance in the Fall/Winter 2015/2016 collections of Philosophy, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Fendi and Ralph Lauren. Love the natural healthy glow it gives! Again the fabric is super soft like a pillow, and it doesn't feel warm although I wore it outdoor

V-Neck Crop Cami Top @ RM29

I don't usually wear open-back top, but the prints on this tie-back printed crop top are just too attractive! I am currently still hunting for the perfect piece of silver skirt to hit the party with this top :P The bright tinges of red and blue fit the festive mood well too!

Or perhaps getting a pair of white culottes for a more casual, laidback look?

High-Waisted Knitting Skirt @ RM49

Apart from the 3 tops, I also got few pieces of skirt to pair with. Honestly I didn't know that the material is so thick until I feel it myself. SUPER Good quality!! Like seriously, where else can I find such cute high-waist knitted pencil skirt with suspender?

Colourful Stripes Skirt @ RM45

And the last piece of my haul is another knitted skirt, but more colorful and unique. Highly stretchable with an elastic waistband. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with my haul this time :P Looking forward to stock up more new arrivals before Chinese New Year!
