5 Family-friendly Activities in Langkawi: Cable Car, SkyRex, 3D Art Museum Experience and More!

Forget about the traditional Mahsuri's Tomb and Seven Wells Waterfall, if you'd love to visit somewhere more fun and exciting in Langkawi. The town's popular cable car ride has emerged as one of the major tourist's spots during the recent years, and most of my friends who went there said it is boring!

As for my experience, it does not seem boring at all! In fact, there are plenty of things to explore within Oriental Village (where the cable car station is located within) and new attractions are introduced from time to time. Just spend about 3-4 hours there, and you'd enjoy the thrills as much as I do!

There are different packages for SkyCab, SkyDome, SkyRex, 6D Cinemotion, 3D Art Museum, Duck Tours.
Only Malaysians can enjoy special rate privileges here, and the discount is pretty huge!

What Can You Do at Oriental Village? (Family-friendly ya!)
1. A Ride on Langkawi SkyCab

Nature lovers should rejoice! SkyCab, or the Langkawi cable car, brings us  a dazzling view of the forest and the mountain right under the feet. The 15-minute journey from from the Base Station to Middle Station covers 1,700 meters in distance before we alight at the height of 650m above sea level and walk up to the viewing platforms. Here we are so close to the unique flora on the ridges and forested valley.

If you feel like skipping the queue, do get an Express Lane Pass (Slightly more expensive)
and you'd be able to enjoy the ride 5 times faster than usual.

For a more adventurous experience, we opt for Bottom Glass Gondola instead of the ordinary, opaque-base gondola. As the bottom of the gondola is transparent, we have a clear view of the nature below. But no worries, this is not exactly "scary", unless you have acrophobia.

We skip the short stair climbing and go for the elevator (This is what lazy Malaysians do!) that brings us to the Top Station (Located at an elevation of 708m above sea level) where we are amazed at the spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Langkawi islands and Southern Thailand from the viewing platforms at the top of Machincang mountain.

2. SkyBridge

There we arrive at the SkyBridge, which hangs at about 100m above the ground, 700m above sea level. It is Langkawi's raining season during our visit, so the mountain-top pedestrian bridge is heavily blurred with thick mist. High winds and cold temperature make it feel like Genting Highlands here!

3. Dine at SkyCup Bistro

After spending an hour for the SkyCab and SkyBridge, it's time to kill the hunger pangs of our stomach. Located within the lush greenery in the Oriental Village, SkyCup Bistro is an ideal place to chill and enjoy a wide spread of Asian and Western delights. Great to drop by for a glass of cooling juice too.

Keropok Losong @ RM8.90
Pepperoni Pizza @ RM24.90
Chicken Chop served with French Fries @ RM18.90

4. SkyTrex 3D Motion Ride

We then proceed for a dynamic and totally immersive experience at SkyTrex where we are seated on a "train" that tours around a dinosaur park. Imagine yourself in the Jurassic Park, this adventure certainly brings adrenaline rush as it takes sensory and physical simulation to a whole new level.

5. 3D Art Museum

Let's save the best for the last! Among all the attractions here in Oriental Village, my personal favourite is the 3D Art Museum. I have been to many 3D Art Museum around Malaysia, and this one is the largest one I have ever visited!

With 21,000 square feet of build up, it features over 100++ 3D interactive paintings, artistically painted by a group of talented international artists, in collaboration with the Art In Paradise Langkawi.

I can't recall how many floors are there altogether, but one thing for sure is that the space is SO huge and you can take as many pictures as possible at your own ease.

This art museum is fully guided with instructions on how to take the best 3D picture (as in which position and angle to create an outstanding shot), and photo samples next to each exhibit which you can refer to.

Here are among the few artwork which I personally love!
P/S: This is just a quick sneak peak on what to expect inside this 3D Art Museum.
As for the rest, you gotta see and experience it on your own :P

Overall, it is a good experience at Langkawi Oriental Village. Recommended for those who have not visited this place before!
