Review: Bausch + Lomb Lacelle Diamond Daily Contact Lenses

Guess what contact lens am I wearing today?

For colored lens wearers, I'm sure you have heard of the beautiful Lacelle Jewel contact lens series by Bausch + Lomb which was launched last year. It is a great news for me when I heard that the brand is introducing something equally pretty, but with extra comfort-- Lacelle Diamond Daily, a daily disposable cosmetic contact lens.

It is because I usually wear contact lenses for extremely long hours, so I need something really comfortable and non-drying to the eyes. Hence, daily lens becomes my top choice nowadays, especially Bausch + Lomb which is famed for its comfort, functionality and safety. Plus, the brand has a proven track record of more than 160 years!

What's best about the dailies is the unique design that no other has before! The light-reflecting facets of a solitaire-cut diamond printed on the lenses bring sparkle and shine to the eyes. More importantly, the 13mm pattern diameter makes my eyes look bigger, even without makeup.

Currently this series offers powered lens to correct short-sightedness. It'd be perfect if it comes with astigmatism correction in future!

With flash light:
Both pictures above are taken without eye makeup, under two different types of lighting. The diamond-cut design is pretty visible even under natural light, and becomes more obvious with flashlight. I am sure it helps to enhance my overall look in pictures.

I am also surprised that it gives a larger and pronounced iris for a doe-eyed look even without any eye makeup! Totally suitable for a day-to-day wear. But for special occasions, the eyes will become more mesmerizing with full makeup on.

Verdict:
1. I love how Bausch + Lomb brings comfort to the next level without compromising on the eye health.
2. The diamond-like dazzling design is so pretty and elegant, suitable for all types of look.
3. However, the price falls slightly on the higher side, but I appreciate the great value for money because comfort is the ultimate key for contact lenses.

Humble, Home-Cooked Nyonya Flavours in Malacca

My recent road trip to Malacca had brought my adventurous soul to explore the Nyonya flavours in town. Unfortunately many shops were closed on Wednesday, but luck was our side, and we managed to discover a homey place that serves real authentic Peranakan dishes.

Nyonya Taste Cuisine in Taman Kota Laksamana

The shopfront might look ordinary, but once we stepped into the restaurant, we were totally blown by the beautiful, time-forgotten paraphernalia that literally transported us back to the glorious Peranakan years.

Kueh Pai Tee

I was excited to begin my gastronomical experience here as the humble chef had prepared many interesting home-cooked Peranakan dishes for us. Everything from the sauce to the pastry here was handmade from scratch using traditional recipes passed down from one generation to another.

For instance, the Kuih Pai Tee featured a very crisp top hat shell that did not turn soggy despite of being generously filled with moist savoury turnip. The shallot crisps garnishing with a dollop of fiery red chilli sauce added a delicious kick to the spicy-sweet combination. So addictive!

Chicken - Garlic Fried Chicken

My personal favourite dish which kept me hooked is the marinated chicken tenders deep-fried with garlic cloves. Although I don't usually like the pungent garlicky stench, I was surprised that the garlic fried chicken actually exuded strong aroma of spice and savoury goodness. No hints of pungent smell at all! The overall dish was delicious and I loved it.

Pajelis Terung

If you love something milder, the blanched brinjal drenched in sweet curry gravy is great to go with a hot bowl of white rice. For the more adventurous palates, I'd recommend the Asam Fish dish laden with very rich, tangy tamarind-based sauce which was well-absorbed into the tender and moist fish.

Fish - Asam Empat Rasa

Pork - Hati Babi Bungkus

Next up was another "forgotten" Peranakan dish, as we seldom see it served in most restaurants nowadays because of the painstaking process of making the meatballs. The pork meat and liver were minced thoroughly, then wrapped in very thin layer of pig's caul (Pork membrane).

The texture reminded me of Chinese waxed sausage, but it was a softer and moist version. The flavour was very unique, and best paired with homemade fresh chilli sauce and steamed turnip slices. If you'd like to try this dish, advanced booking is required.

Omelette

Homemade Pineapple Tart

Ending our sumptuous feast, we also tried the homemade pineapple tart, a festive favourite pastry of mine. I enjoyed the light, crumbly and melt-in-your-mouth texture without being overly buttery for my liking. Plus, the pineapple paste was nicely done at the right level of sweetness.

Meet the humble owner of Nyonya Taste Cuisine :)

Verdict:
1. If you are feeling nostalgic and looking for old Peranakan charm, Nyonya Taste Cuisine is definitely a great restaurant to visit.
2. Surprises are aplenty here, as it serves many traditional Peranakan dishes that you may not have seen elswhere.
3. Recommended: Garlic Fried Chicken, Hati Babi Bungkus, Pineapple Tart

Review: Blincon 3-Month Disposable Lens from A-Look, The Mines Shopping Mall

When it comes to purchasing eyewear, I only go for trusted websites or physical stores that sell authentic products. Well, knowing the fact that there are so many fake contact lenses out there, we just gotta be more careful right?

One of the famous optical chain stores I usually visit is A-Look, which has numerous outlets around Malaysia but the nearest to my neighbourhood is located at The Mines shopping mall.

In the store, you will be spoilt with wide varieties of latest fashionable and trendy eyewear imported from around the world that meets the Asians' needs. Honestly I do not know what to pick when there is such a wide range of contact lenses available-- all in various brands, colors, duration of use, features, etc. They even have specialty contact lenses for Dry-Eye wearers or PC users.

While waiting for the staff to prescribe the lenses to me, I get to try on some of the frames there. Famous brands like Rudy Project, Oakley and RayBan are spotted on the sunglasses section, but what amazes me is the service of customizing power lenses into high curve sporty sunglasses which are not commonly done in other optical shops.

For glasses and sunnies, the staff there are helpful in explaining the best fit for different face shapes. For instance, round face wearers should avoid round or angled frame type whereas oval face like mine is suitable for box-type frames.

I wanted to try something new (that I have not worn before) but I have no idea what to choose until the staff recommends some according to my personal preference. I am surprised with the good deal in contact lenses they have there!

So guess what I have gotten from A-Look! It’s two boxes of 3-month disposable colored contact lenses from Blincon (www.blinconcolorlens.com). I have been using a lot of monthly disposables, but this round I try the quarterly disposables as it can last me longer at a lower cost. Plus, I don’t usually wear colored lenses at work on a daily basis.

If you do not already know, Blincon is the leading of 3 Months Disposable Cosmetic Contact Lenses that come in various fun designs and vivid colors that instantly enhance your appearance.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
• 2 Lenses per box
• 3 Months Disposable
• Material : 58% Polyhema
• Water Content : 42%
• Country of Origin : Korea
• Base Curve : 8.6mm
• Diameter : 14.2mm

With bright, natural outdoor light:
The Romantic Aqua shade from the Jazz cosmetic contact lens series that I pick looks very natural under bright outdoor lighting. Taking a closer look, I notice it is slightly "sparkly" and gives the eyes a shiny and enlarging effect.

With indoor light:

With flash light:
Under flash light, the pattern on the lens appears to be more obvious. Nevertheless, it is comfortable even after an extended hour of wear (I usually wear it early in the morning when I go out, and remove it late at night. Highly NOT recommended because contact lenses generally tire the eyes.)

A-LOOK PROMOTION
Anyway, the contact lens seem to be a good deal as it costs less than RM100 for the usage of 6 months! Definitely worth the value. Plus, currently A-Look is having contact lens promotion and other great deals in the store.

For every purchase of RM368 Armani Exchange Frame or RM298 Ray-Ban style frame (only in specified style) at any A Look outlet, you will get FREE Crizal contact lens.

Caffe Coffea @ Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Located a stone's throw away from Klang's AEON Bukit Tinggi shopping mall, Caffe Coffea is a hidden gem for true coffee lovers. Chilling amidst the black and white minimalist ambiance, we are pleased to enjoy more than just cakes and coffee at this European-vibe café.

The cafe is nestled on the first floor, above a Panasonic shop. You can choose to sit in the air-conditioned space or at the airy garden courtyard. Reflecting the name of the cafe, they have even planted a young coffee tree at the corner, as shown on the above picture.

Inside the cafe, there are coffee-making facilities and chiller taking the center area. The rest of the space is filled with plenty of seating, making it an ideal location for those who are craving for a satisfying caffeine boost and tranquil place to work for the day.

There are numerous books for your reading too.

Ice Cube Coffee with Milk @ RM10

First timers must try the classic combination of coffee and milk here. The frozen cubes of espresso, when added with chilled milk, melt away slowly and form a creamy smooth texture that gives a perfect balance of bitter sweetness.

You can also try the basic coffee staples for the real taste of Javanese medium roasted beans used here which is known for its almond nuttiness with hints of chocolatey flavour.

Matcha Latte @ RM7

Non-coffee drinker may go for the new item-- Matcha Latte-- a perfect warm mug for the day. Unlike many I have tried elsewhere, Caffe Coffea prepares an ultra smooth concoction of milk and matcha which I cannot feel the slightest powdery texture at all.

Yoghurt Ice Cube @ RM10

If you're into thirst-quenching beverages, the best-selling Yoghurt Ice Cube would be pretty interesting. The chilled orange juice is served in a glass with frozen mango yoghurt ice cube, and all you need is adding fresh milk into the citrusy concoction. The tangy orange and mango flavours somehow pair perfectly with the creaminess of milk and makes for a delicious treat.

Plenty of classic teas are available in the house too.

Chicken Chop @ RM18

For the hot food items, we are totally blown by this beautifully grilled chicken chop! It is surprisingly well marinated with just the basic salt and black pepper. Although it is served with a choice of Mushroom Sauce or Black Pepper Sauce, I personally think the meat is already good to go on its own.

Coffea Club Sandwich @ RM12

We also order some light bites for sharing. Prepared ala minute along with fries and garden salad in Japanese sesame dressing, the club sandwich is layered between lettuce, tomato, egg, cheese and ham. Simple yet comforting!

Homemade Tartar Sauce

I love how well they execute each item with attention to details, from the dishes and beverages up to the sauce! The tartar sauce is specially prepared by the amazing team, and it turns out to be interestingly light and buttery smooth without any sharp tartness at all. Great to go with the fries.

Dessert wise, the selection of cakes is really extensive as I notice different types of crepe cakes (Rose Lychee, Italian Tiramisu, Vanilla, Mango, Oreo Crunch, Peanut Butter) as well as chocolate and cheese cakes.

Jasmine Green Tea Crepe @ RM10

This decadent slice of crepe is surprisingly good as it exudes pronounced floral aroma on the palate, followed by faint hints of green tea flavour. Each layer of crepe is slightly thick and not too soft, which allows us to enjoy the biting pleasure as we sink our teeth into the cake.

Hazelnut Torte Cake @ RM9

Nutty lovers will rejoice because this cake is beautifully coated with finely chopped hazelnuts and chocolate sauce. The crunchy texture pairs well with the creamy smooth chocolate mousse and duo layers of airy sponge cake. Highly recommended although you may not have a sweet tooth!

Verdict:
1. Love the tranquil ambiance here where I can easily spend the whole day here working with my laptop.
2. The food, beverages and desserts are all pretty good, and this place is highly recommended for private functions as well.
3. Recommended: Chicken Chop, Jasmine Green Tea Crepe
