Sawasde Thai Kitchen & Cafe @ Subang Jaya

With the sudden change of weather these few days, my body has been feeling cold constantly and I need something to warm me up. Speaking of food, what else can be better than some scrumptious Thai food?

While on the look-out for some satisfying Thai dishes, I found this Sawasde Thai Restaurant in Subang Jaya looks inviting from its entrance. Look at the attap roof; It gives a really Thai feel there.

Stepping into the warm, friendly atmosphere that Sawasde offers, I feel more than pleased to enjoy my meal there. It is suitable for almost any occasion, be it a celebration, casual gathering, family dinner or co-workers meeting.

With the bamboo, Thai Buddha and the warm bright colors, I truly feel like I am visiting this authentic Thai restaurant outside of Thailand!

During my next visit, I'd probably want to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere under this spacious outdoor patio while indulging in their house specialities!

#1 Smoked Duck @ RM20

To start off, the slices of smoked duck are good to munch on, before we go for the main dishes. The sweet and delicate flavour of the duck is simply irresistible, and that makes me place higher expectation towards other dishes!

#2 Tom Yam Seafood Soup @ RM36

It comes in a large pot, and then is divided into 10 small bowls, with equally generous amount of seafood in each bowl! There I can sense the goodness of the fresh prawns and squids, complementing with the aromatic lemon grass.

 #3 Sawasde Special Fish @ RM40

This is one of the best-selling dish at Sawasde. The Ikan Siakap here is deep-fried before being immersed in Thai-styled soup. Made of blended belacan, dried chillies and lemongrass, the soupbase is a must-try even for non-spicy eaters! You can always request the kitchen for a milder or stronger taste, entirely up to your preference!

#4 Deep Fried Prawn in Thai Chilli Paste @ RM36

Sawasdee has experienced Thai Chefs who use only fresh ingredients and authentic spices. Hence, there's no doubt that the huge prawns are all fresh and succulent, which go along well with the  concoction of creamy coconut milk and chilli paste.

#5 Steamed Lala in Thai Style @ RM25

The clams are freshly flown from Phillipines daily, and I'm glad to sample all the fresh ones without any mud taste. The soup is clear but rich in this seafood flavour, with a hint of sweetness behind the mild taste.

 #6 Green Curry Chicken @ RM30

I've sampled many green curry but this is definitely one of the  best I've ever tried. Beautifully unique and flavor-filled, this dish gives me a great impression with the tantalizing taste. It's also thick in the coconut gravy.

#7 Deep Fried Beancurd with Smoked Duck @ RM25

Ducks are uncommonly seen in Thai cuisine, but Sawasde uses them for various dishes to bring out their own uniqueness. Surprisingly, the soft beancurds do complement well with the tender duck cubes. It is of slight spiciness, but then again you can go for more adventurous flavours upon request.

 #8 Crispy Deer Meat @ RM18

Here's another deep-fried dish which caters for carnivorous, and it's addictive! Served piping hot from the kitchen, I am tempted to try out the whole plate because its crispiness is just too good to resist!

#9 Deep Fried Kai Lan with Kai Lan @ RM18

The name itself already caught my attention, and I understand what's behind the name when the platter arrives. The crispy shredded Kai Lan are deep-fried before being stir fried with some uncut, raw Kai Lan. It gives a total different texture, and this combination is best served while hot.

Sit back and relax for the night while enjoying the beers and even red wines :)

With the nice ambience, outdoor or indoor seating areas and a huge menu to order from, Sawasde Thai will surely tempt your senses and keep you in a good mood, enough to keep you entertained for 2 whole hours of pleasing meal time!

Clan Dim Sum Restaurant @ Sri Petaling

This is a very famous dim sum outlet which many food bloggers went for food hunting. Coincidentally, it is located less than 1 km away from my house. When good food is all around my home, I just failed to pay much attention on them.

Finally todae I went to this outlet and tried their most feh-mes dish,
Signature dish of the Dim Sum Restaurant: 鸡窝包.
It’s a combination of chicken steamed bun and glutinous rice.

In short, 鸡包+糯米鸡=鸡窝包
(Chicken steamed pao + Chicken glutinous rice = THE ABOVE PICTURE)

The bun itself is fluffy, and when the sauce of the glutinous rice mixes with the bun,
it turns out to be super yummy as you taste the smoothness of the chicken pieces!

The oozing soy sauce and oyster sauce is kept warm inside the bun.

Other than that, their yam bun is one of my favourites too! :D
It is small-sized, and the filling is 100% yam paste. A great choice for yam lover.
If you love eating dim sum, then Clan @ Sri Petaling is definitely a must-try!

P/S: This shop is crowded with tourists every weekend.
It opens at 8pm at night till the 12 noon on the next day.
Have them as dinner, supper, breakfast, brunch or even tea! :D

Wok Dish Way @ Kota Damansara

Strategically located at Kota Damansara, Wok Dish Way specialises in a vast selection of tasty Chinese home cooked food, including the signature dish, Lei Cha (擂茶).

This restaurant, named "Bu Zi Dao"(步滋道) in Chinese, seems to be homophonic with "Bu Zhi Dao" (不知道), meaning "I Don't Know". Such interesting name would definitely keep you remembering it!

Clean-looking and it looks inviting, isn't it?

The Chef, with more than 15 years experience, has prepared the signature dish Lei Cha, using a traditional recipe passed down by the family generations. Originated from the Hakka province, this "Lei Cha" Soup, a tea-based broth is basically a green bowl of chlorophyllic soup made from milled herbs including mint, basil and lots more.

 #1 Lei Cha (步滋道擂茶) @ RM7.90

The healthy set meal comes in a bowlful of white rice, soup, and a mixture of tea leaves and grounded herbs, along with various roasted nuts and greens. This is the authentic Hakka version, with no added preservatives.

#2 Lei Cha Fried Rice (步滋道擂茶炒饭) @ RM9.40

Try out another version of improvised Lei Cha; This is served with fried rice, with the same types of condiments. The fried beancurd and groundnuts are slightly salty, but others are perfect in their original taste!

Well, you may be turned off with the colour of the rice. But to tell you the truth, it is so green because it is fried with the Lei Cha paste, made of pounded tea leaves, basil, mint, sesame and peanuts.

Despite of the healthiness it brings, most of the time people tend to have a great dislike towards such a green combination. However, the authentic Lei Cha here is more aromatic with savoury taste which would attract beginners like me!

Lei Cha? No, it's actually the Special Homemade Sauce, made of blended chillies, garlic, soy sauce, and most surprisingly, Thousand Island sauce as well. With the right balance of spicy and sweet taste, it gives a tangy flavour to complement with the following dishes!

#3 Fermented Bean Curd with Pork (南乳炸肉) @ RM8 (Small) / RM15 (Big)

Well-marinated with 'Nam Yu', this deep fried pork is tender for the meat and crispy at the edges. Each bite is so addictive and I just can't stop having this!

#4 Claypot Pork Trotter with Vinegar (砂煲猪脚醋) @ RM11.90

The succulent pork trotters are so flavourful with the generous amount of black vinegar used in the broth. Best matched with a bowlful of white rice to enjoy the broth.

#5 Mee Hoon Kueh Segamat Style (Soup) / 昔加末面粉糕 (汤) @ RM6.90

The Southern people usually call the handmade Pan Mee as "Mian Fen Gao", and this bowl is no other than the famous version from Johor. The clear soup base plays the most important role here as it brings out the true flavour of the noodles with no MSG added.

#6 Fried Chicken Wings (香酥炸鸡翼) @ RM15

Just by looking at the photograph, you should know that they are served piping hot. Munching through the crispy skin, I find the inner meat juicy with its tenderness retained!

#7 Crispy Seaweed (特色菜丝) @ RM7.90

The basic vegetable, Choy Sum is shredded into thin pieces and then deep-fried until it turns crispy. Best served with chicken floss to complete the balanced meal.

#8 Deep Fried Fish in Sweet and Sour Sauce
@ RM15 (Small) / RM 25 (Medium) / RM35 (Large)

Another heart-warming dish includes this sweet and sour fish which reminds me of home.

#9 Special Jiang Bao Dish (怪味酱爆) @ RM10

I find the name of the dish quite funny, because the owner adds "Guai Wei" (meaning Strange Taste) in front of its name. Nevertheless, it is not strange, but really appetizing with their homemade special sauce. The meat is stir-fried with the spicy and sweet sauce until fragrant, and again I'm addicted with the juicy meat.

#10 Special Cucumber @ RM4

One Japanese cucumber is cut into half before slicing it into thin pieces, then it is served with the chef's special sauce, mainly comprising the fragrant sesame oil. It's a good yet healthy finger food indeed!

#11 Ice Blended Lei Cha (擂茶冰沙) @ RM7.90

The specialty and highly-recommended beverage is this Lei Cha drinks. It's good for beginners as you don't have to be afraid of the stinky smell of Lei Cha, because it is now added with a generous amount of milk and whipped cream.

#12 Left: Special Drink @ RM3.50
Middle: Iced Longan with Ribena @ RM3.50
Right: Ice Blended Cucumber Lemon @ RM6.90

Comprises of cincau, longan and lemon cubes, the "Special Drink" is especially good and refreshing during hot days!

#13 Left: Ice Blended Red Bean @ RM6.90
Right: Iced Blended Peanut with Milk @ RM6.90

If you'd love to enjoy something icy, go for these with their natural sweetness.

 #14 Cendol @ RM6.90 (Big) / RM3.50 (Small)

Here's the big bowl of cendol, meant for two-pax sharing. Despite of the room of improvement in this dessert, I am satisfied with the generous portion, considering its price.

Verdict:
1. My dining experience here is warm and comfortable as if I'm feeling at home! Traditional dishes with home-cooked style, it simply reminds me of the family.
2. Personally I find the Lei Cha here is really acceptable, especially for beginners like me. In fact, it becomes one of my favourite dish that day!
3. Overall, I learn that healthy food can be exciting too!

Cinnamon Coffee House @ One World Hotel

Strategically located near the One Utama Shopping Mall, the Cinnamon Coffee House at One World Hotel becomes a hot spot for the weekend High Tea from 12 noon to 4.30pm for the shoppers.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a whole pleasing dining ambiance, but you can always go for the garden terrace if you prefer al fresco dining experience.

 #1 Roasted Whole Lamb

To start off, this award-winning restaurant serves an extensive spread of Western cuisine. I love the rosemary grilled potatoes there, so flavourful with the herbs and spices.

 #2 Chicken Slices

#3 Left: Chicken Terrine ; Right: Mackerel

The usual cold cuts on the buffet line are best served as a starter, after being seasoned with some condiments which bring a lift in flavour.

#4 Fine Assortment of Cold Cuts

The newly-added sandwich bar which is the brainchild of Chef Israel Lazaroo has received wonderful commendations from guests. Pick your favourite turkey breast ham, beef bacon, tuna, chicken floss, cheese and fresh vegetables, so that the chef can instantly bake you a piece of delicious sandwich.

What a hearty yet filling meal, with a hint of sweetness from the fruit tart!

The restaurant also features an open live cooking kitchen where each dish is served upon ordering. This is a picture of the honorable chef who was cooking my spaghetti, mmm...how aromatic!

#5 Penne a la Carbonara

The Italian dish here is really creamy with generous amount of cheese, served with cubes of ham and capsicums. Fresh and hot, its luscious bold flavour delights me!

#6 Assorted Sushi and Japanese delicacies

The show kitchens also feature cuisines from Japan, where you can customize your very own handroll of California Temaki or pick some Wakame (Seaweed), Shake (Salmon) and Baby Octopus.

#7 Top: Penang Char Kuey Teow ; Bottom: Teo Chew Porridge

The Chinese show kitchens are up to replace the hot chaffing dishes at the usual buffet line as well. If you order Loh See Fun or Mee Mamak, it will be ready for you in 5 minutes, and you can see how the chef cooks so quickly!

#8 Homemade Yong Tau Fu

#9 Left: Snapper ; Right: Chicken

Next, let's lavish the hi-tea spread with some Asian delights which come with various ooking styles and sauces to tickle your taste buds.

#10 Left: Deep Fried Crispy Fish with Thai Mango Salad
Right: Pan Fried Lamb Chop with Kuzi Sauce

Created with Chef Michael and Chef Zaleha respectively, I'd prefer the succulent lamb chop because of the aromatic, spiced tomatoes sauce. It's indeed an authentic Johor method of cooking!

#11 Left: Tiger Prawn Sambal with Sticky Rice
Middle: Laksa Johor ;
Right: Malaysian Satay, Rendang and Nasi Lemak

There are more Malay cuisines on the go, showcasing the rich culture of food in this country. The fish-based gravy of Laksa Johor is one of my favourites when its rich soup base comes with thick coconut-milk lush. It appears to be fiery-red, but I can tolerate well with the spiciness there.

#12 Roti Masala

More varieties are found at the Indian counter with a-la-minute Masala thosai and chutney freshly prepared by the chefs.

#13 Freshly Cut Fruits

Healthy fresh fruits are perfect before indulging myself with the delectable desserts.

#14 Sweetened Almond Seeds with Ginseng

I start off with the Chinese dessert, which I heard it helps in keeping the skin young. The right balance of sweetness is well matched with the aromatic ginseng.

#15 Chinese Steamed Cake

There are many fluffy Huat Kueh on the buffet line. So soft and warm, I can easily pop one into my mouth.

#16 Left: Apam Balik
Middle: Kuih Nyonya ;
Right: Roti Jala

Next, we move to the traditional Malay desserts, which are highly sweetened to satisfy the sweet tooth! I love the Kuih Kaya of the Nyonya style the most, as I savour every bite of the fragrant coloured glutinuos rice.

#17 Assorted Doughnuts

Middle: Red Velvet Cake ;
Right: Fruity Pudding

The restaurant also serves up a myriad of irresistible delicacies in very petite size, the wide assortment of mouthwatering desserts will leave you spoilt for choice.

A thin slice of French-styled crepe with the fairly thick caramelized orange sauce leaves a tangy flavour along with a hint of sweetness from the chocolate chips. What a sweet seduction!

#20 Left: Chocolate Mousse
Middle: Baked Cheese Cake ;
 Right:  Red Velvet Cake

At the pastry corner located at the entrance of the restaurant, a variety of delicious cakes are on sale. If you'd love to buy a whole cake home, the flavours available are very extensive too.

#21 Chocolate Fondue

For chocolate lovers, indulge in their heavenly chocolate fountain with a variety of fruits and marshmallow dips which is a favourite not only amongst kids but adults as well.

The buffet line is so extensive that they even have dim sum, pizza, rojak, nasi kandar, garden salad; The list is endless!

So give yourself a boost during the weekend, and make your way to Cinnamon Coffee House for its Weekend High Tea. Let your tastebuds run wild with the wide spread local and international cuisine for only RM63++ for adult (RM32++ per child aged 4-12 years) during normal weekends or RM70++ for adult (RM35++ per child) during Public Holidays!

Verdict:
1. In my opinion, the buffet spread has a really wide choices for all. Too many choices leave me with no choice sometimes, as I have no idea of which to grab.
2. The foodstuff from the live cooking corners are especially good mainly because of its freshness.
3. This award-winning restaurant can easily defeat others of the same line for its value for money and strategic location.
