Eat All You Can at Hwa Ga (火家) Korean BBQ Buffet Restaurant

Are you up for a sumptuous Korean BBQ Ala Carte Buffet from only RM39++ onwards?

An affordable, full-of-meat Korean BBQ buffet definitely sounds like a good deal to me. Therefore I am here at Hwa Ga (火家) to pamper my tummy with a delicious Korean treat.

Hwa Ga's recently opened outlet at Sunway Giza is located on the first floor, and you need to use the stairway at the side of the building. If you find this area a bit far from you, you can also visit Hwa Ga's other outlets at Sunway Mentari, Sri Petaling, Mont Kiara, Ara Damansara, Damansara Perdana and Kepong.

Just a brief introduction on Hwa Ga -- It offers affordable, casual BBQ buffet dining where you can enjoy all types of Korean food under one roof without burning a hole in the pocket

At Hwa Ga, you just need to sit down, relax, order anything you want on the menu and eat your heart out! The ala carte menu features 31 Korean dishes, including more than 10 types of barbecue meats (beef, chicken, pork, squid), as well as other Korean snacks such as rice cake, pancake, bibimbap and Korean fried chicken.

For ultimate freshness, the staff will prepare the food upon ordering and send the items to your table. All the items on the buffet menu is unlimited refillable, just EAT!

For the fresh BBQ meats, there are 11 types altogether:
Pork Belly
Sliced Pork Belly
Pork Belly with Mushrooms
Grilled Sliced Pork Belly in Korean Spicy Sauce
Grilled Pork Ribs
Grilled Marinated Pork
Stir Fried Squid and Pork Belly with Spicy Sauce
Pork Jowl
Grilled Cross Cut Rib
Beef Belly
Beef Marinated in Soy Sauce

Given that it is an ala carte "self-service" buffet, you just need to barbecue the meat by yourselves on the hot marble plate.

Sliced pork belly is one of the most popular items here!

The sliced pork belly in Korean spicy sauce is highly recommended for its rich savoury flavours.

If it is meat that you are craving for, apart from pork and beef, they have the currently trendy Korean chicken too -- Yangnyeom Chicken in Sweet and Chilli Sauce as well as classic fried chicken. I love the thick coating of sauce that gives a nice spicy and sweet kick to the juicy meat!

Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew)

After trying out more than 10 types of meat, by now we are already half stuffed. But that doesn't stop us from going for other Korean favourite dishes such as hot stew, pancakes, fried rice, and Korean noodles.

Sundubu Jjigae (Spicy soft tofu stew)

One of my personal favourites is the beancurd stew -- So rich and thick with gooey egg in the concoction. Definitely a healthier option for those who prefer a lighter and non-meat option.

Bibimbab (Mixed rice with vegetables)

The Bibimbab comes in two types here: One served in bowl, another in hot stone pot. For one who is craving for comfort food that warms the stomach, definitely the latter is a better option.

Dolsot Bibimbab (Mixed rice with vegetables served in hot stone pot)

Pajeon (Spring Onion Pancake)

For the pancake, each portion comes in 4 big slices of crisp pancake. It is slightly thicker than the usual ones I have, nevertheless it tastes okay with the generous amount of filling and is not overly oily. However, it can fill up the stomach quickly, so group sharing is highly recommended.

Kimchijeon (Kimchi Pancake)

Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cake)

If you love something sweet and chewy, this dish is definitely for you.
But personally, I prefer it to be spicier for that instant kick on the palate.

Japchae (Glass Noodles with Vegetables)

Kimchi Ramyeon (Kimchi Korean Noodles)

Shin Ramyeon (Korean Noodles)

On top of the 31 dishes on the ala carte buffet menu, Hwa Ga also serves refillable complimentary ban-chan (Korean side dishes) for guests upon arrival. The awesome buffet deal is real here!

Drinks are not included in the All-You-Can-Eat Korean Ala Carte BBQ Buffet but no worries, you can always order them additionally. The alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices include Soju, Makgeoli, Beer, Plum Wine, Tea, Sodas and Juices.

Verdict:
Hwa Ga is a top choice for super valuable Korean BBQ barbecue buffet.
With 7 outlets available across KL/PJ, I am sure you can satisfy your Korean cravings at Hwa Ga.

Classic Afternoon Tea at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

An array of beautifully-crafted French desserts, a sip of premium TWG tea, and a charming lounge where you can spend your afternoon there relaxing with your family and friends; How does that sound like? Amazing? That’s why we are at Pavilions Lounge, in Sheraton Imperial Hotel Kuala Lumpur for this classic afternoon tea experience.

For only RM84 NETT per person, you will get to enjoy a 3-tiered afternoon tea set served to the table, endless selection of hot pastries and desserts on the buffet table, as well as refillable TWG tea served in pot.

Honestly, I didn’t expect the portion of food to be so sizeable here! The 3-tiered English tea set alone is enough to fill us up despite of us arriving with empty stomach. Each set is meant for two pax sharing.

Ambiance wise, I have no complaints at all! With the soothing gentle flow of cascading water as a backdrop, the lounge’s atrium dramatically reaches into the mezzanine floor as a base for an upper-level fountain.

Good food comes hand in hand with lovely music here, do enjoy the soothing live tunes played by the pianist from 2pm to 5.45pm everyday. Sinking myself into the comfy sofa, my cosy evening gathering with family and friends couldn't be more perfect than this!

If you plan to stay till late, why don't grab a glass of cocktail while
listening to the talented live band singers to spend the lovely evening?

From the top tier of the tea set, I am already hooked with the freshly-baked scones which come in 2 flavours: Plain and Raisin. I just love to add a generous slab of thick clotted cream and let it melt away in the mouth, bursting with creamy and milky goodness.

Sandwiches and Mini Wraps

But some may prefer having the savouries first, hence let’s check out the second tier. Composed of 3 items per pax, the Open Face Scottish Salmon Sandwich and Creme Fraiche on Rye Bread is my personal favourite as the thick smoked salmon melts perfectly in the mouth with juicy goodness.

Both the Truffle Scented Egg White Salad Sandwich and Smoked Turkey and Gem Lettuce Mini Wrap with Fresh Pineapple sound simple but I enjoy the unique touch added into it. Lighter and healthier to my liking!

Lemon Curd Tartlet, Raspberry Tartlet, French Macaron

The bottom layer of the tea set is all about the beautifully-crafted sweets. I am pleased that the Raspberry Tartlet and Lemon Curd Tartlet are more refreshingly tart and fruity that I'd thought. As for the Chocolate Macaron, its sweetness is so mild and guilt-free for me.

Don't forget to wash down the delicacies with a cup of freshly brewed TWG premium tea. In fact, each diner can enjoy up to 3 pots of TWG tea (meaning that you can try 6 flavours altogether if you dine with another person), and they are all refillable!

Just pick your favourite from the wide selection of TWG tea such as my all-time favourite Silver Moon, Grand Wedding and Magic Flute, as well as the classics including English Breakfast, Moroccan Mint, French Earl Grey (and the list goes on).

If you are still feeling peckish, there is a wide selection of hors d'oeurves and baked goodies available on the buffet spread. Fresh-from-the-oven items such as Chicken Pot Pies and Quiche Lorraine are great options for the pastry lovers as appetizers, before moving to the wonderful dessert spread.

Hot Dish
Quiche lorraine
Chicken pot pie
Crab cake with aioli
Homemade sandwich
Cucumber and dill cream cheese on caraway bread

French Sweet and Pastries
Red Velvet Cake
Raspberry Tartlet
Chocolate Chip Muffin
Apple Crumble Cake
Rustic Carrot Cake
Marble Fruit Cake
Chocolate Eclair
Assorted Cup Cake
Mini Chocolate Fountain with Berries

Those with sweet tooth are sure to be overjoyed when seeing so many French desserts on the buffet bar. The dainty cakes are just so tempting that I must try at least some of them although I am almost full to the brim. I particularly like the classic French eclair, so crisp on its hollow shell and creamy good inside.

Mousse Cake

Red Velvet and Financier Cake

Cheese Cake

The cheesecake has definitely liven up to my expectation when it melts in the mouth with a cotton soft, light and pillowy texture. Nothing too thick or dense; It is just perfect even for non-cheese lovers.

Chocolate Fountain with Berries and Marshmallows

Who doesn't love Chocolate Fountain? Imagine that alluring scent of rich chocolate, welcoming you like a waterfall, allowing guests to dip a variety of fruits and desserts, creating delicious chocolate coated delicacies. Don't forget to grab some gummies, freshly-baked cookies and pavlovas from the jars too.

Cookies in Classic Jar
Green Tea and Raspberry Pavlova
Candied Chocolate Orange
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Macadamia Cookies
Homemade Cookies

Verdict:
Overall, it is a relaxing afternoon well-spent with good tea, delectable pastries and desserts,as well as great companions. Be it with friends, family or your other half, an afternoon spent together couldn't be more perfect than this.

RM38++ Eat-All-You-Can Dim Sum Buffet @ One City, Subang Jaya

It has been a long time since I last had such a satisfying dim sum feast on a fine Sunday! For only RM38++, I get to choose over 42 items on Sky Palace's Dim Sum Buffet menu and eat my heart out. Imagine I can order unlimited baskets of Xiao Long Bao, Prawn Dumplings and Roasted Pork; How awesome it is!

All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum Buffet
- Only available on Sunday and Public Holiday
- RM38++ per adult
- RM28++ per senior citizen (above 60 years old) / child (10 years old and below)
-  Include tea and snacks
- Dining hours: 8.30am - 2.30pm

Here's the complete menu of the dim sum buffet.

Since the buffet starts at 8.30am, it is advisable to make reservation, visit the restaurant early and enjoy the dim sum fresh from the kitchen. Approaching 11am, the restaurant is almost fully occupied with large family crowd.

ASSORTED ROAST MEAT
Roasted Meat Plate - Pork, Pork Belly, Duck (各式烧味 - 叉烧,烧肉,烧鸭)

Apart from the piping hot steamed and fried items, they even have special roasted meat on the menu! The roasted meats here are very well-flavoured, crispy on the outside and moist inside, and my personal favourite goes to the roasted pork belly because of the extra crisp and crunchy texture it gives upon each bite.

CANTONESE STEAMED ITEMS
Steamed Fish Ball with Garden Green (清蒸潮州鱼卖)
Steamed Prawn Dumpling with Water Chestnut and Parsley (手工鲜虾饺)
Shrimp and Pork Dumpling (干蒸烧卖)
Steamed Herb Dumpling (药膳果球)

As much as we want to have another helping of the delicious roast, there are lots more steamed, fried and claypot dim sum items that we gotta try! I love how the Har Gao and Siew Mai are generously filled with "real" meat that tastes fresh on the palate. Same goes to the steamed rolls and dumplings, they are equally rich in flavours and keep us going for more!

Steamed Bean Curd Skin Roll with Supreme Oyster Sauce (蠔皇鲜竹卷)
Szechuan Dumpling in Red Sauce (四川红油抄手)
Steamed Bamboo Roll (黄金鸡扎卷)

Special Mushroom Oat Bun (当红蘑菇包)
Steamed Char Siew Bun (笑口叉烧包)
Steamed Shanghai Siew Long Bao with Pork (上汤小笼包)
Special Homemade Glutinous Rice with Chicken (腊味家乡糯米鸡)

For something more filling, the steamed buns are highly recommended! For instance, the sweet porky Char Siew filling and molten egg yolk custard are equally appetizing, despite of them falling on the sweeter side. Another must-have item is the Shanghai dumpling that explodes with porky soup goodness as soon as I poke into the thin and smooth hand-crafted skin.

Hong Kong Egg Yolk Bun (香港流沙包)

Rice Noodle Roll with Japanese Scallop (日本鲜带子肠)

The Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun here is pretty interesting, as it not only comes with BBQ Pork and Fresh Prawn fillings, but also available in Japanese Scallop and Shredded Crispy Duck flavours. I am surprised that each scallop is so huge and fresh, totally fresh and melts perfectly with the soft rice roll.

DEEP FRIED AND BAKED ITEMS
My stomach is already half-stuffed when the deep fried dim sum arrives! Looking at the variety, I can see the restaurant has put in alot of efforts to create unique and creative items to cater for the most discerning palates.

Oven Baked Char Siew Puff Pastry (密汁叉烧酥)

One not to be missed is the freshly baked pastry which is served piping hot from the oven. It is definitely worth the wait, as I enjoy the crispy crust layer with sweet chunky pork filling. So aromatic and addictive! If you're into sweet stuff, then the custard-filled Polo bun is a great option.

Oven Baked Polo Bun (马可波羅包)

Stir-fried Radish Cake with Prawns (虾球炒萝卜糕)

Deep Fried Crispy Yam Puff (峰巢芋角)

I am not a huge fan of deep-fried items, but this crispy yam puff is just so irresistible! Love the soft texture of the yam without being too mushy, and the filling does not feel as heavy as those I have tried. Plus, it is not overly greasy for my liking.

Pan Fried Double Taste Fish Cake with Garlic Flavour (香煎渔民肉饼)
Chinese Spring Onion Pancake (香煎葱油)
Crispy Rice Crum Roll in Thai Style (泰式香酥米花卷)
Pan Fried Shanghai Dumpling (上海煎锅贴)
Crispy Scallop Ball Cheese Dumpling (香酥带子球)

CLAYPOT CUISINE
Braised Yellow Wine Chicken in Hakka Style (客家黄酒鸡汤)

Apart from the dim sum in baskets, I am delighted to see several premium items served in claypot here. Great for warming the stomach with the soup, before tucking into the meaty dishes. Among the three, the beef brisket receives the best response because of its thick flavourful gravy and well-marinated meat.

Guang Xi Tau Po (鱼汤廣西豆卜)

Beef Brisket (拉肠牛腩煲)

Verdict: Overall, the dim sum is of good quality, fresh and unique in some ways.
Highly recommended for family and friends' brunch gatherings on Sundays and Public Holidays.

On a side note, feel free to read my previous review on Sky Palace's dinner menu :)
