[FOOD] Indian Street Food in Gully Restaurant @ Holiday Inn Singapore Little India

Gully Singapore, a journey of reimagined Indian street food

Located on the rooftop of Holiday Inn Singapore Little India, Gully Restaurant and Garden is the place where I embark on a vibrant, sensory-rich journey through modern Indian street food, elevated with inventive flair and high-quality ingredients.

The atmosphere is buzzy and modern, echoing the spirit of Indian street markets with a sleek, urban twist, hence ideal for group gatherings or an adventurous date night. Now let the food do the talking, and walk you down the narrow alleyways ("gali" गली) of bustling Indian streets.....

COCKTAILS
Gully Signature Margarita (Masala Margarita)
Little Chennai (Kaya Butter Whisky Sour)

We start off with bold and fun cocktails such as the Signature Margarita. This is definitely not your average margarita. It is rimmed with masala salt and infused with spice, giving a tangy, smoky punch that pairs perfectly with the rich food. Little Chennai (Kaya Butter Whisky Sour), on the other hand, is inspired by the iconic kaya toast, delivering a creamy, nutty and well-balanced flavour on the mouth.

Tandoori Fish Tacos

A must-have appetiser here is the tandoori fish taco! These tacos are a masterclass in balance. The fish, perfectly marinated and grilled, is nestled into soft taco shells with a bright, zesty mint chutney and a squeeze of lime that cuts through the richness. When Indian meets Mexican, I am surprised it matches perfectly well.

Smoked Paneer Tacos

Vegetarian diners would not feel left out with this bold dish. The paneer is gently smoked and soaked in saffron marinade, giving it a luxurious aroma. Mint chilli adds a subtle fire, while puffed quinoa lends crunch and texture. It is inventive and deeply satisfying.

 Bara Bazaar Puchka

What interests me is the beautifully arranged row of pani puris. The presentation is playful—served as "shots" with crispy shells you fill yourself. The tamarind water is tangy and spiced just right, while the potato mash and sev add a street-side authenticity. A must-try for anyone craving nostalgia with flair.

Tandoori Jhinga

For sharing, the tandoori prawns are also a crowd pleaser. The prawns are plump and smoky, kissed with yellow chilli and coated in a yogurt marinade that clings to the seafood beautifully. They arrive sizzling, aromatic, and perfectly grilled—one of the standout items for seafood lovers.

 Charred Malai Broccoli

For the mains, this dish surprises us. The broccoli is charred at the edges, creamy in the center, and enveloped in a luxurious cashew sauce. Toasted almonds give crunch, making it both indulgent and wholesome.

Gully Smoked Butter Chicken

The best is saved for last! A twist on the beloved classic, this version of Smoked Butter Chicken arrives with a whiff of smoky ghee that lifts the whole dish. The chicken is tender, the tomato gravy rich and comforting, and it is perfect for mopping up with their pillowy, golden Garlic Butter Naan, which is slathered generously and impossibly moreish.

Overall Experience
I am not usually a fan of Indian food, but dining at Gully Singapore is an eye opener for me! It is a sensory trip through India’s diverse food culture, reimagined with global influences. The execution is polished, the flavors are bold, and every dish tells a story.

Come hungry, come curious—you’ll leave full and delighted.

Coffee Terrace (咖啡苑) @ Maxims Genting Hotel, Genting Highlands, Pahang

During my last visit to Genting Highlands, the organizer has treated us with a lavish buffet dinner at Coffee Terrace, an all-day coffee house where I saw a huge crowd on a Friday evening.

The interior is brightly lit, complementing the dark furniture. Very spacious, and I love the contemporary design which brings comfort upon dining. It offers both buffet and ala carte menu, catering for all your needs.

#1 Salad Bar

The buffet spread began with a salad, with freshly-baked breads, dips and condiments as a perfect palate opener, before we were spoilt with choices for main courses.

#2 Sushi Bar

At the Japanese section, they had both cooked foodstuff (Udon, chicken teriyaki, tempura, etc) as well as raw sashimi platter and freshly-prepared colorful sushis. I go gaga everytime I see petite maki sushi of different hues and fillings!

 #3 Sushi Rolls

#4 Assorted Vegetable Tempura

#5 Chicken Teppanyaki

The Japanese corner didn't fail to tempt me with loads of good food! Due to the cold weather in Genting, I had a bowlful of hot, flavourful miso soup to warm my stomach before enjoying the fresh salmon and tuna cuts.

#6 BBQ in Skewers

For the flavours of Local Favourites & Nyonya, I'm delighted with the succulent chickens on hot plate grill. They even have my favourite grilled fish, so well-marinated as it burst in myriad taste of spices.

#7 Pari Bakar (Grilled Stingray)

#8 Ingredients for Steamboat

I think most of the visitors there are mainly of Chinese, since the restaurant is only a stone throw away from the casino. So I find the Chinese section of the buffet has a wider spread than usual.

 #9 Dim Sum

Another favourite pick of mine is the steaming hot dim sum, varying from Siew Mai, Har Gao, to steamed fluffy buns. All of them are Halal, yet they taste so delicious in a very Chinese traditional way.

 #10 Pan Fried Seabass

#11 Beef Roll with Asparagus Mushroom

 #12 Marinated Lamb

Stopping by at the Western corner, I saw the skillful chef slicing through the juicy lamb with lightly-charred skin. The meat was well done, and I just asked for more slices to satisfy my carnivorous appetite.

 #13 Naan Bread

If you're a fan of Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, pick your favourite from the Roti Naan, Masala, assorted curry as well as dips.

#14 Pandan Bread & Butter Pudding

Well, this is probably my favourite, because of its warm and soft texture, scented with refreshing pandan flavour. So delicious that I had this as a main course with some vanilla dip and chocolate sauce.

 #15 Assorted Jelly & Pudding

 #16 Assorted Tartlets and Churros

Besides the colorful pastries, I was surprised to spot my favourite Churros on the buffet spread here. Dip them into the chocolate fondue and viola, the crispy dough stick melted perfectly with the thick chocolate coating!

   #17 Rainbow Cake

Not only kids went gaga with this colorful piece of cake, I also got drifted away with this light spongy cake, with fresh cream topping sprinkled with colorful chocolate rices. Surprisingly, it's just nice in sweetness and soft for my liking.

The dinner was so enjoyable when completed with a little hint of alcohol.

Verdict:
1. Taste wise, it is satisfying and most importantly, FRESH! :D
2. Recommended: Raw Tuna Sashimi, Marinated Lamb, Rainbow Cake
3. Probably the widest, best buffet spread you can find at Genting Highlands.

Let's Go Mamak!

I remembered vividly the mamak sessions I used to have during the high school time. Ahh, those old good times which everyone misses alot!

But nowadays people tend to turn ChaTime, Snowflakes or any other dessert cafes rather than visiting the traditional mamak stalls.

Just ask yourself,
how long have you not eaten
roti canai or maggi goreng with teh tarik?

As for me, my favourite food at mamak stall is no other than the Pasembur,
the fehmes Indian rojak in town.

A plate of pasembur consists of shredded cucumbers, potatoes, beancurd, turnip, bean sprouts, prawn fritters, spicy fried crab, fried seafoods, noodles and served with a sweet and spicy nut sauce.

The prawn fritters never fail to satisfy me when dipped into the specially-made sauce!

To my surprise, I have been to a roadside stall selling pasembur along with yong tau fu!
I think the fusion of Chinese and Indian food is the latest trend eh?

The tea session is never complete without a mouthful of ice kacang and cendol beverage!

It's perfect for the hot, sunny weather :)

Diversify your choice of food, and you'll enjoy them more :)

Neela's Chettinad Curry House @ Bukit Beruang, Malacca

Location of the sunny morning:

Neela's Chettinad Curry House
665-B Jalan Bukit Melaka 1/5,
Taman Bukit Melaka Bukit Beruang,
75450 Melaka.

Where do we go for breakfast normally? (If you can wake up early!)
Mamak Stall, of course!

Start your day with two glasses of Fresh Cow Milk :D

But the downside is that: The milk is full of SUGAR--- it's coarse one, by the way.

The one and only man working on all sorts of roti canai for us :D

This huge tong is given to each table, filled with the curry and dhal;
You can drink everything if you want! LOL

Ahhh :D I love this crispy Roti Telur!

Typical Indian with typical Indian food.
Fantastic.

Wooden chairs and tables at the mamak;
Which I couldn't be able to see them at any mamak in the city anymore.

My healthy thosai :D
I love having cheap but nice breakfast like this! (:

Let's go Shisha ;D

Location:
ESTANA CURRY HOUSE SDN BHD
No.23D, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Bukit Bintang,
50250 Kuala Lumpur.

It was my first visit there during my first week of working at the hub of the city.
Papa brought me along the Bukit Bintang street in search of nice, posh restaurants.

And this Estana Curryhouse is right next to Limkokwing's WINGSCafé,
Easily noticeable with the huge LimKokWing’s billboard.

It is a place of tourists to relax, smoke and drink ;D

The foreigner’s favourite Shisha ;D
Or known as hookah in Middle East; a fruit-flavoured tobacco.

The uniqueness of the dish here is:
They don’t use plates!

Banana leaf rice @ RM 6.90 each.

They provide refillable drinks, rice and side dishes.
For the first time, I thought these are like free kimchis in Korean restaurants.

This is mine ;D
My main dishes is the drumstick ♥♥♥
By the way, everything looks so chilly red, but they aren’t spicy ;D

(; Very suitable for me, people with low spiciness tolerance.

Besides that, they have a wide variety of dishes from a plain roti canai to western food. Catering service is available too, order now! (;
