RedTail Bar by Zouk @ Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands

Woohoo, it's party time at the trendy RedTail Bar by Zouk!

With exciting drinks, cool games, lively ambiance and artsy atmosphere in the house,
where else could be a better chill-out place than RedTail?

It was my first time hanging out at RedTail last weekend since its grand opening at Sky Avenue, Resorts World Genting early January this year. To my surprise, RedTail has a totally different concept as compared to Zouk in KL.

The mastermind behind RedTail, the team of Zouk Singapore has created such a revolutionized nightlife scene in RedTail by transforming the traditional drinking hole to a new-style gaming bar.

Look at the spacious adult playground in RedTail! Covering 4,289 sq ft, it can easily fit up to 150 guests along with a wide variety of game zones such as Xbox E-Games, Beer Pong, Shots & Ladders, Battle Shots, Giant Pong, darts, and poolMarvelous ambience, food and company all set to awe customers here!

Excitement doesn't just end with the games here. Complementing the vibrant nightlife scene is the colorful atmosphere of the place which celebrates culture and arts — do you know that RedTail is a big supporter of the Southeast Asian art scene? The décor showcases murals, graffiti art, handcrafted lighting and sculptures; How cool is that!

*bestseller* Zouk-inspired Lime Shot

What not to be missed here is of course the wide array of unique concoctions. I heard that the Zouk-inspired sour plum shot, a bestseller in Singapore and part of the Zouk DNA, is served here at RedTail. But I personally prefer something more subtle (less sour), hence I opt for lime shot instead. Cooling and refreshing!

Mocktails aka kids' drinks are available too :P That's how I enjoy the fizzy drinks while sitting back and relaxing with some cool live music playing in background.

We also order beer towers along with some light meals and snacks for sharing to keep us going throughout the night. If you're lucky, you'd meet Xiao Hong the Red Panda mascot of RedTail and don't forget to take pictures with him!

Oh did I forget to mention that you can get free massage at RedTail too?

The best nights have a happy ending, and the happy ending usually happens only here in RedTail!

Overall, RedTail the entertainment-driven social gaming lounge is a perfectly trendy and cool place for all age groups. The lively and fun vibes here are amazing for celebrations and group gatherings of lovers of all kinds of music, games and sports.

Can't wait to be back for rounds of drinking with mates!

The Smurfs Live On Stage @ Resorts World Genting

If you lived through the 1980s, I'm sure you'd have heard of the tiny blue gnomes named the Smurfs. But do you know that they are actually much older than that, as Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford aka Peyo created them way back in 1958? So, in conjunction to the 60th anniversary of the Smurfs, for the first time ever in Malaysia, The Smurfs is brought into live in Resorts World Genting!

Are you excited to see human-sized Smurfs singing and dancing on stage
along with the Mother Nature and Gargamel? Definitely I am!

So we are here at Genting International Showroom to watch "The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring", a 70-minute, two-act musical extravaganza featuring the adorable blue creatures of the forest amidst a whimsical backdrop of colorful mushroom houses on stage.

Storyline wise, it is based on the original story about the Smurfs’ favourite time of the year – S P R I N G !! As the village prepares for their much-awaited Spring Parade, the evil Gargamel being the bad guy as usual, tries to disrupt the festivities with his wicked plans. The plot then continues with the Smurfs triumphing over the odds to battle Gargamel and save spring in this joyous musical.

Mother Nature is in the house too!

So did the Smurfs win over Gargamel? You gotta catch this live show yourself!

Directed by John Rowe and choreographed by Katie Kermond, of Millennium Entertainment International, "The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring" musical theatre actually took the crew several years to design, plan and finally bring this show to life.

Currently, it has been touring since 2014, in more than 15 countries, entertaining over 150.000 fans and still counting...

And we are lucky to be the home of these 8 adorable Smurfs for a month in Genting, of which the best-known Smurfs include Papa Smurf, Clumsy Smurf, Brainy Smurf and my favourite Smurfette.

At the end of the show, the children have special privileges to meet and greet the cast for a group photo. Good to see so many happy, smiling faces there.

Overall, the show is great for the parents to relive their childhood moments and their children to enjoy the cute story and learn the positive messages about friendship, teamwork and care of the environment

Time to bring your kids there for some fun, memorable family time!

Sushi Zanmai @ Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands

Yay! It is good to see my favourite Japanese family restaurant opening in Sky Avenue! Similar to its outlets in Klang Valley, Sushi Zanmai in Sky Avenue is very popular among the crowd, so you can expect to see a queue during both lunch and dinner hours.

Sushi Zanmai, Sky Avenue
Lot T2C-11, Level 4
(Same level as Awana Skyway)

It did not take too long for us to secure a comfortable seat amidst the warm, kid-friendly ambiance of the restaurant. If you would like to see how the skilful chefs prepare your favourite sushi and sashimi, you can always sit by the bar table and enjoy the meal.

Asama (3 types of fish) @ RM36.80

Despite of being regular customers in Sushi Zanmai, we are excited to try various dishes that we don't usually order. First to tantalize the palate is the fresh sashimi platter comprising thick cuts of tuna, yellowtail and salmon which give delicious oceanic juiciness to the palate before we indulge in a fresh bowl of crabmeat and avocado salad.

Kani Avocado Salad @ RM23.80

Mentaiko Spider Roll @ RM23.80

In Sushi Zanmai, we just can't miss the signature Mentaiko Spider Roll - soft shell crab sushi roll topped with avocado and cod roe mayonnaise - that again explodes in the mouth with fresh seafood flavours from the crisp soft shell crab and cod roe.

Salmon Zanmai (8 pieces + 1 roll) @ RM33.80

For those who have soft spot for salmon, try the salmon sushi platter which you can indulge into salmon served in several forms -- pure salmon, salmon belly, broiled salmon, salmon roasted with cod roe, and salmon roll. Truly a salmon lover's paradise!

Hotate Mentaiyaki @ RM13.80

We just can't get enough of the fresh seafood here, hence we opt for a couple more ala carte dishes such as the grilled scallop with cod roe and deep-fried tempura-style prawns to pair with our main courses. No doubt, the Hotate Mentaiyaki here is always so addictive, thanks to the thick buttery cod roe sauce.

Ebi Tempura @ RM13.80

Another favourite item of mine is the lightly battered yet crisp tempura prawn and its accompanying dipping sauce that never fails to satisfy my cravings for tempura.

Teriyaki Chicken Miso Ramen @ RM15.80

If you prefer something warm and hearty, a piping hot bowl of miso-broth ramen topped with grilled chicken is sure to comfort your stomach. All thanks to the well-flavoured soup and springy ramen, it is no surprise that the dish is one of the crowd's most favourite items on the menu.

Chicken Karaage Don @ RM20.80 (Large)

Some may prefer rice to noodles, hence part of Sushi Zanmai's staple menu is the wide array of rice bowls with different toppings. And I have always loved their Chicken Karaage Don since young (at least for the past 10 years!) Simple yet comforting, the sweet-savoury fried chicken and onion is well-portioned and consistent in terms of taste.

Double Choco Monaka @ RM12.80

At the end of our meal, we are already full to the brim but nothing stops us from indulging in the well-loved Japanese chocolate wafer ice cream. I like how the wafer maintains its crispiness while the chocolate ice cream melts in the mouth without feeling overcloying on the mouth.

If you are looking for affordable Japanese dining in Genting Highlands, head to Sushi Zanmai on the top floor of Sky Avenue and treat yourselves with a good meal!

Top 6 Favourite Dinner Venues in Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands

We know there are so many food options at the new lifestyle mall, Sky Avenue in Genting Highlands including restaurants, cafes, fast food chains, and a Malaysian favourite food court. Despite of being there for so msny rounds, there are still plenty of new eateries for me to explore.

Feel free to check out the food reviews I did in Sky Avenue:
 1. Top 20 Favourite F&B Outlets in Sky Avenue
3. Top 6 Snacks in Sky Avenue
4. [Special Highlight] DC Comics Superheroes Cafe, Sky Avenue
5. [Special Highlight] Sushi Zanmai, Sky Avenue

Top 6 Favourite Dinner Venues in Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands

During my recent visit, I get to dine at several places and I have handpicked some locations
which are ideal for dinners be it with family or friends..

1. Royale Vietnam - authentic Vietnamese cuisine
2. Boat Noodle - Thai famous street-style eatery
3. Sushi Zanmai - popular local Japanese chain restaurant
4. Morganfield's - pork rib specialist
5. BMS Organics - for the health conscious
6. DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe - fantasy-themed Asian-Western cafe

[Non-Halal] Royale Vietnam

We don't usually see alot of homey Vietnamese cuisine in Malaysia, but if you are craving for some authentic flavours, then Royale Vietnam is the right place to visit. From the restaurant decors to the waitstaffs' attire and dish presentation, everything is just so Vietnamese!

Whether you come with your partner or a big group of people, there are always plenty of menu options for you as most of the dishes here are meant for sharing. We opt for 4 ala carte dishes which ideally serve 2-3 pax.

Braised Pork served with Eggs @ RM36

The star of the evening is the piping hot, slow-braised traditional Vietnamese caramelized pork belly and boiled eggs served in a claypot with fire underneath. The pork belly is extremely tender and falls off the bone, whereas the fatty layer melts perfectly in the mouth.

Interestingly, the savoury-sweet sauce is cooked with coconut juice that does the "magic" to the overall flavours. It is a great dipping sauce for cucumbers, lettuce and other fresh vegetables. Best served with white rice.

 Pomelo Salad with Dried Calamari

To complement with the meaty dishes, we have a refreshing bowl of pomelo salad that gives a nice spicy kick to the palate along with the dried calamari, as well as the Vietnamese No.1 famous spring rolls that wrap around lots of greens.

Fresh Spring Rolls with Prawn @ RM18

Kailan with Garlic

Boat Noodle

Another restaurant that is worth visiting is the Thai famous boat noodle which serves authentic Thai-style rice noodles in petite portion and we all love competing on how many bowls we can finish per meal!

The rice noodles are available in 6 types: Beef and Chicken flavours (Pathumthani / Ayutthaya / Prosperity Yum flavours). The spicy one is really fiery hot yet it gets us hooked and craving for more. If you don't like your noodles to be too plain, you can always add toppings such as Fried Wantan Skin and Fried Chicken Skin.

While we cool ourselves down with the signature Cha Yen (Thai milk tea), we also indulge into the Hot Steamy Sangkaya that features soft pillowy bread and homemade kaya that satiate our sweet cravings.

Sushi Zanmai

I believe Sushi Zanmai is no stranger to all of us. It is good to see it opening in Sky Avenue, hence we can have an affordable option when we are craving for Japanese food. But be warned, the queue here is equally long like those outlets in Klang Valley.

Feel free to read my full review of Sushi Zanmai, Sky Avenue: HERE.

[Non-Halal] Morganfield's

Calling for all rib lovers! Morganfield's has, by far, the best spare ribs I have ever tried. In fact, all the 4 signature spare ribs namely the Hickory BBQ, Garlicky BBQ, Smoked Peppercorn and the Naughty Spare Ribs flavours are equally yummy in their own distinctive flavours.

I love how the meat is extremely tender and falls off its bone so easily. To balance up the meaty portion, we prefer having a sharing platter that comes with the grilled Spicy Devil sausage, Herby Hog sausage, garden salad, grilled corn on cob, corn bread and crispy French Fries.

*Please note that the portion served is specially prepared for 2 pax.

Left: Begonia @ RM17.90
Fruity chunks of kiwi, strawberries and lime served in lemon lime soda topped with passion fruit syrup

Right: Aqua Fresda @ RM18.90
Watermelon chunks and juice with freshly squeezed lime juice, served with rose syrup and kalamansi sorbet

Don't forget to wash down the heavy flavours with some icy cold beverages
especially the fruity concoctions that give a refreshing sensation to the palate!

BMS Organics
BMS Signature Nasi Lemak @ RM23.90

For the health conscious or vegetarians, don't worry, you can head to BMS Organics, the popular local organic vegetarian cafe for a wholesome, healthy meal. For instance, the nasi lemak here is made of healthy brown rice, acar, beancurd and papadom. Totally meatless and organic, yet flavourful and taste great.

Grilled BMS' Chef Burger @ RM31.90

DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe

Who doesn't love superheroes? I don't mind coming back to this cafe again for the superhero-themed food such as the Flash's Backlash Sausage roll served in a cool Superman box and the Gotham's City Chocolate Milkshake with a Batman coffee art on it. How cool is the food right!

Flash's Backlash Sausage
Katana Sliced Hawaiian Pizza
Mera's Ocean Magic Seafood Spaghetti
HA HA HA Oreo Milkshake
Gotham's City Chocolate Milkshake

It is my second time here, and this round we are sampling the Katana Sliced Hawaiian Pizza which is adorned with a cute "bat" pastry on top. Same goes to the Mera's Ocean Magic Seafood Spaghetti.

Overall, the food presentation is amazing and definitely Instagram-worthy! Feel free to bring your children here to enjoy the excitement of fantasy or relive your childhood moments here.
