Buffet at Contango @ The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur

The Majestic Hotel is one of the quintessential luxury boutique hotels in KL, a magnificent 82-year-old architectural treasure centrally located in heart of the city, opposite the striking old Moorish style railway station.

Entering its all-day buffet dining restaurant located in the Tower Wing, Contango, we were greeted warmly by the staff who then led us into the luxuriously designed contemporary restaurant that can fit up to 250 people.

Love the romantic setting with some natural light from the glass window!

Featuring an open kitchen interactive dining concept, the restaurant serves over a hundred varieties of food daily. The cuisine, freshly prepared to order, ranges from Western with a pizza oven and Churassco Grill to Chinese, Japanese, Malay and Thai.

Love the crispy, lightly sweet Roti Pisang layered with thinly sliced banana, from one of the live cooking stations.

Apart from grilled chicken, beef steak, varieties of salad and cold cuts which are readily served on the buffet line, pasta and pizza are prepared a la minute up to your personal preference.

Fresh Seafood On Ice: Clams, Mussels, Prawns

Salads and Cold Cuts

Served chilled and perfectly marinated!

Among the hot items, grilled chicken drenched in black pepper sauce is good while others have nothing to shout about.

Wild Mushroom Cream Soup topped with Walnuts

Assorted Cheese and Biscuits

Japanese cuisine has always been my favourite among all choices on a buffet line, as long as they serve delicious cold appetizers and fresh, high-quality sashimi. Of course, the top notch quality sashimi here do not disappoint me with their wonderful, juicy freshness.

Fresh Sashimi on Ice: Tuna, Salmon, Butterfish, Octopus

Cold Salad: Marinated Seaweed and Japanese Baby Octopus (Recommended!)

Assorted Sushi

Hot and Cold Cha Soba

Miso Soup

Juices, coffee and tea are refillable, whereas wine is charged separately. The 2000 bottle wine cellar includes the exclusive Opus One vertical collection of wine created through a collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi.

Unlike many buffets I've tried, Contango serves their cakes and pastries inside the chiller to preserve its freshness for the best enjoyment. I saw lots of colorful macarons there too, but they are all gone before I manage to grab one.

Delectable Pastries, Financiers, Tarts and Cakes

Spot the glittery pink heart and red lip-shaped chocolate! Both are exclusively crafted by the in-house cafe. Coated with chocolate, it is filled with unique milky flavour that satisfies the sweet tooth without being overcloying at all.

The cakes look interesting, but my favourite vote goes to the blueberry cheese cake,
which melts perfectly in the mouth with bits of tangy berries.

My Childhood Favourite: Cotton Candy

Ice Cream! There are 12 unique flavours to choose from, ranging from the basic rich chocolate to the popular jackfruit flavour. Not to forget the extraordinary ones such as hazelnut, soursop, mint and pineapple. I wish my stomach is not overfilled with ice creams!

Back to my addiction for Japanese dessert, green tea and black sesame ice creams here taste 'original' with extra creamy texture. I love the bitter taste of green tea just like those served in authentic Japanese restaurant.

Coffee and Chocolate Ice Creams topped with jellybeans and chocolate rice

Daily buffet dinner at Contango is priced at RM98.00++ per person.

2. The service here is excellent--- Attentive and informative staff, consistent clearing of plates and refilling drinks.
3. The ambiance here is ideal for romantic dinner dates, corporate functions and special occasions. Revisit? Definitely a YES!
