Premium Scottish Salmon @ The Curious Goat, Damansara Perdana

Salmon is a common favourite among Malaysians, but how do you define a good salmon? During the recent private tasting of John Ross Jr's traditionally Scottish smoked Scottish salmon, I finally found the finest quality salmon which I haven't try elsewhere before. 

Being one of the most-respected UK purveyors of premium smoked salmon, John Ross Jr. supplies primarily to Her Majesty The Queen. Now they're air-flown and made available in Malaysia supermarkets such B.I.G Publika, Presto and Jaya Grocer, as well as various restaurants and cafes including The Curious Goat.

The magnificent smoked fish are highly-prized for their flesh color, high oil content, delicate texture and succulent flesh. Don't be surprised that John Ross Jr's smoked salmon manages to scoop a prestigious Great Taste Award for 5 years since 2008! 

Signature Smoked Salmon - Black Pepper, Tea, Whisky

Look at those nice, pronounced fat lines on the salmon! I notice that the smoked salmon has firm texture and moist, oily appearance (Not too wet). Despite of the strong smoky flavour, it doesn't veil its fresh odour. 

Traditional Smoked Salmon with Cracked Black Pepper

Smoked using traditional 19th century Scottish kiln time-honoured techniques, each slice of the salmon gives a delicate, distinctive flavour. Plus, a touch of aromatic cracked black pepper adds a bit of a kick to the premium fish.

Chinese Tea Smoked Salmon

My personal favourite goes to this classic, aromatic tasting smoked salmon. It has been smoked with Lapsang Souchong (立山小種) black tea from Fujian, China and imparts a sweet, clean smoky flavor to the translucent, raw-looking flesh. Definitely an exotic must-try item!

Whisky Smoked Salmon

How about something with alcohol? Yes, John Ross Jr has another best-selling variant that's been slowly smoked and infused with Balvenie Whisky. It amazes me with a rounded sweetness enhancement beyond the light smokiness. 

For unique and exotic flavours, pair the smoked salmon with INVERAWE Hot Banana Chutney
and a piquant COLN VALLEY Mustard and Dill sauce and you'll be surprised!

If you're lazy to prepare them at home, feel free to dine at The Curious Goat and enjoy the same smoked salmon in open sandwiches here. Sitting perfectly on a thick spread of cream cheese, salmon and toast here is a simple yet perfect combination that you must try.
