Chinese New Year Menu 2016: Cheng Ho Court Chinese Restaurant, Philea Mines Beach Resort

It has been a while since I visited Philea Mines Beach Resort, which is formerly known as Mines Wellness Resort, and conveniently located next to The Mines shopping mall. Approaching Chinese New Year, the resort's award-winning Chinese restaurant, Cheng Ho Court (郑和苑) has prepared a wonderful lineup of festive set and ala carte menus under the belt of two master chefs-- Chef Heng and Chef Chin.

Tuck in the Chinese New Year festive set menus under the elegant setting in this newly-renovated restaurant. The festive menu is available from 4 January till 22 February 2016, priced from RM1,288 to RM1,988 nett per table of 8-10 persons.

Jelly Fish Yee Sang (RM78 per half portion / RM98 per full portion)

As part of the tradition, we have the signature prosperity toss comprising of jelly fish (with add-on salmon slices) and colorful condiments drizzled with tangy-sweet homemade strawberry-infused sauce which makes the toss more appetizing and less cloying.

Besides that, a variety of options are available-- Abalone, Salmon, Pear and Mixed Vege Fresh Fruit Yee Sang-- priced from RM68 onwards. Takeaways are available for your enjoyment at home.

Chinese New Year ala carte menu and Dim Sum menus are also available for dine-in to please the curious palates. All the dim sum here are beautifully handcrafted using only the freshest ingredients, for instance the crystal prawn dumplings and crispy beancurd rolls feature fresh, crunchy and sizeable prawns.

Steamed and Deep-Fried Dim Sum

I personally enjoy the dim sum here as it tastes very "original" as everything from the dumpling skin to the sauce is made from scratch. Definitely one of the dim sum in town that exceeds my expectation.

 Steamed BBQ Chicken Buns

Similarly, the BBQ chicken buns are equally good, as the bun itself is so soft and pillowy with the goodness of fragrant chopped roast chicken inside. The filling is extra flavourful with hints of aroma from coriander leaves.

Deep-fried Roasted Chicken with Plum Sauce

Steamed River Patin Fish with Nyonya Sauce

Both chicken and fish dishes are served in oriental style, with a twist of flavours from the Chef's homemade sauce. You'd love the tender chicken in plum sauce if you prefer something more tangy and lighter, while the steamed fish in nyonya sauce suits those heavy palates.

Wok-Fried Prawns with Kiwi Fruit Salad

The prawn dish, on the other hand, is equally noteworthy because of its freshness and nice crunchy texture. A drizzle of zesty lemon mayo gives a refreshing lift to the overall taste, without overwhelming the palate.

Thumbs up to the beautiful presentation, everything in the dish is edible!

Wok-Fried Assorted Vegetables with Dry Sole Fish

Steamed Fried Rice with Preserved Duck

A nice variation from the traditional glutinous rice with waxed meat, this aromatic bowl of steamed fried rice features a distinctive texture of fluffy and soft rice bits. I love the smoky slices of duck that achieve a balance of lean and fat layers too.

Chilled Honey Sea Coconut with Snow Fungus

Ending our sumptuous meal is the dessert duets, comprising of smooth and cooling sea coconut, and traditional glutinous rice cake layered with yam and sweet potato then deep-fried into crisp perfection. A perfect hot and cold combination that makes us feel so homey and heartwarming.

Fancy Duet

If you are craving for homey Chinese dim sum and hot dishes, Cheng Ho Court surely does not disappoint you.
