Review: MARY KAY Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick

Lipstick oh lipstick❤ When it comes to lipsticks, I am sure that most ladies out there have tried various types of lipsticks-- Liquid or stick type with glossy, satin or matte finish. While each type can dramatically change your overall makeup look, finding the best texture that enhances your complexion is not easy. But I manage to find one recently!

…..Let me introduce the NEW Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick to you guys because it is really worth the value! It is an intense, stay-true colour with gel semi-matte lipstick.

GEL FORMULA
Mary Kay All-New Gel Technology: It’s What Your Lips Have Been Craving

This is Mary Kay’s first full-coverage lipstick which uses Advanced “Cushion Matrix Technology”-- ultrafine silica gel microsphere technology to embed and retain colour on the lips’ surface.

Plus, it has the lip-cushioning gel comfort that makes your lips more kissable! It provides a soft-focus effect, with optical enhancers included to scatter light and blur the appearance of minor imperfections.

Let's check out the short clip above that summarizes what's in this lipstick!

BOLD COLORS
Rich, stay-true and long-lasting, there are 8 new colours for this season to match your outfits!
  • Bashful You
  • Rich Truffle
  • Mauve Moment
  • Powerful Pink
  • Always Apricot
  • Poppy Please
  • Crushed Berry
  • Midnight Red
MATTE FINISH
Among the 8 shades, I get to try 4 of them. Each contains moisturizing ingredients such as sunflower oil and jojoba esters to help condition the lips. The result? Vivid, long-lasting colours without leaving the lips looking chapped or feeling dry.

The Feel: On the lips, it glides smoothly like a gel stick.
The Colour: Highly pigmented and easy to seal to the lips.
The Finish: Semi-matte texture with very slight glossiness.

But if your lips are extra dry / chapped (especially early in the morning when you wake up), perhaps you can consider applying a layer of lips essence / collagen booster first before the lipstick. The resulting color is still very vivid, smooth and beautiful.

Bashful You appears rather nude, good for the makeup-less makeup look.
Always Apricot is a subtle sweet peach-red tone, perfect for the cute Korean girl next door.
Midnight Red gives the classic, sexy and timeless look, leaving behind a hot-red kiss.
Crushed Berry is for those with fair, pink undertones in the skin, good to give your pout a change if you have always been sticking to the reddish tones.

But the trendiest thing about lips nowadays is the Korean gradient lips, which make your lips look smaller and more kissable. So I try creating this look using the Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick with the help of Mary Kay Perfecting Concealer. Just apply the concealer at the outer lips and blend it well!

Tips: You can use the applicator onto the lips directly, or pick a small concealer brush.

The result is fine, and I love how it makes the hot red and deep berry tones more wearable on a day-to-day basis

SMOOTH TEXTURE

Taking a closer look, the texture on the skin is really smooth. In other words, the lips feel good upon application since the pigments are milled for 24 hours for an ultrafine, smooth colour with semi-matte finish.

BEAUTIFUL PACKAGING
Comes in an elegant black tube, the clear-top window makes finding your favourite semi-matte shade a snap.

Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick is available at RM55 each, from 1 August 2016 onwards.
Available through Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant at www.marykay.com.my.

Verdict:
1. At this price point, I think it is a good buy considering the moisture level of a semi-matte lipstick and the lovely gel-like glide-on texture.
2. It is likely to outdo many mid-range lipsticks in the marketplace.
3. Rating: 4.5/5 ; Purchase more? Definitely a yes! I'd love to try the remaining 4 shades too.
