[Food Review] kemuri "Until You Say Stop" Yakitori Omakase @ Cuppage Plaza, Singapore

kemuri - Unique experience with yakitori omakase!

It is my first time trying the “Until You Say Stop” style Yakitori Omakase by kemuri, a newly-opened sister restaurant of the 5-time Michelin Plate awardee between 2018-2023, Kappo Shunsui. And the unique experience is full of surprises!

At only $99+ (U.P. $129+), we are treated with a huge feast comprising until-you-say-story yakitori of various cuts, and a 7-course dishes starting from appetizer up to dessert, as well as a rice or noodle dish. Definitely a satisfying, hearty and one-of-a-kind dining experience!

Upon entering into kemuri, we are greeted with a zen-like atmosphere, with only 10 counter seats and 8 guests spreading across 2 tables.

The exquisite table setting at kemuri exudes an air of luxury and elegance.

Here comes the best part - yakitori!

The smoky yakitori skewers are served piping hot by the Yakitori master, Chef Michio "Mitchy" Murakami who has gained a reputation as the Head Yakitori Chef at the sister restaurant of one of the most famous Yakitori restaurants in Tokyo that was awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand across 5 years.

Yakitori of various chicken cuts

The yakitori mainly comprises of various chicken cuts such as the skin, drumstick, gizzard, liver, etc which are well marinated, super tender and cooked to perfection. The sweet-salty tare glaze really does wonders to the grilled chicken in elevating the robust flavours!

We not only get to try 9 different cuts of chicken meats, but also savour various seasonal vegetables directly imported from Takasaki. Harvested fresh and delivered directly to us, vegetables from Takasaki are known to be delicious and rich in flavour.

The overall flavours are elevated with various Japanese spices on the side, such as the crowd's favourite Shichimi Togarashi (Japanese Seven Spice Blend), Japanese chilli powder, hot pepper powder and tangy yuzu pepper powder.

While enjoying one yakitori skewer after another, we are served with a course of 7 side dishes to balance the palate. The menu of the side dishes is seasonal, depending on freshest ingredients available. First to arrive is the assorted 3-kinds appetizer.

Chicken fillet, tomato and vinegar jelly - super tangy and refreshing!

Grated radish with salmon roe - it serves great as a palate cleanser!

Chawanmushi - lovin' the silky smooth and sweet steamed egg with miso!

Chicken soup + Cold soba with grilled duck and leek hot soup

Minced chicken and egg bowl - it is the signature must-have comfort food here!

To complete our dinner, we also order a bottle of sake from a renowned distillery directly from Japan. Not a fan of sake? Kemuri also offers a variety of shochu, wine, beer etc, both served in glass or bottle.

Verdict:
Overall, the premium Yakitori Omakase experience is worth a try as we get to indulge in the different textures, flavours, and techniques of Yakitori dining under an exquisite setting of an upscale, intimate sanctuary retreat.
