Hotel Review: Sunway Putra Hotel, KL

Sunway Putra Hotel, or formerly known as The Legend Hotel is one of the favourite hotels among tourists and businessmen because it is just a stone throw away from Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) and conveniently located adjacent to the LRT station.

 Hotel Lobby at 9th Floor

Recently I was offered a stay at this 34-floored hotel, completed with 618 furnished rooms. Currently, refurbishment is in the progress and I heard that the first 8 floors of the building will be transformed into a whole new shopping centre around Chow Kit / PWTC area.

We got an one-room apartment on 28th floor (Size around 580 square feet), overlooking the pool at 10th Floor and a whole city of skyscrapers. Travellers with small families would love this fully furnished and serviced apartment for their utmost convenience.

The apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen (Inclusive of electric stove, kettle, refrigerator, microwave oven, cutlery, toaster) and a spacious living room with leather sofa and TV (Includes Astro and in-house movies Vision 4)

Moving to the bedroom, there is a king-sized bed and a working desk with another bulky, old-fashioned TV on it. Nevertheless, the complimentary Wi-Fi is quick and convenient.

The overall condition of the room is rather shabby, considering the hotel was built in 1994 and last renovated in 2010. I believe there are plenty of room for improvement, that's why they are constantly upgrading guests who booked for deluxe room to apartment or suite.

FACILITIES
Gymnasium - Plenty of machines and space for workout.

Swimming Pool - Overlooking the skyline of Kuala Lumpur

There are baby pool, adult pool up to 10 feet and a sauna by the pool, with plenty of
garden seating for those who would love sunbathing. Free flow drinks are served there too.

DINING
The hotel room comes with complimentary breakfast, which features an array of western and local delights although the choices are pretty limited here. At the bakery corner, there are danish, croissant, muffin and cakes that taste normal. Nothing much to shout about.

Western Breakfast - Sausages, beef bacon, potato croquette, fish finger, pasta

The omelette is good, well anything with egg tastes awesome to me!

For those who love the Malaysian flavour, you may try the Indian delights (Roti canai is available!), Char Kuey Teow and Nasi Lemak.

Chinese Cuisine - Teo Chew porridge with condiments

My favourite Muesli and Yoghurt assortment are served on ice.

Gen 10 Japanese Restaurant

It is currently open only for lunch from Tuesday to Friday. Diners who crave for buffet dinner may visit during weekends. The food quality, portion and price are above the usual hotel standard. You may read on my full review HERE. Worth paying a second visit here!

Monkey Bar - The place looks quiet, but too smoky for me.

Overall Verdict:
1.
The room needs plenty of refurbishment; It is still far from having the standard of a typical 5-star hotel.
2. Location wise, it is all good. Great hotel for business travellers, but not for leisure.
3. I think the overall standard will be upgraded as soon as the renovation of the shopping mall below the hotel is completed in 2015.
