Buy 1 Free 1 Main Course @ Bijan Restaurant & Bar, KL

Dining in a fine, award-winning Malay restaurant is a unique experience which I have always wanted to try but the price factor is often the reason I shy away from the fine Malay cuisine. Until recently I come across this amazing deal of "Buy 1 FREE 1 Main Course" at Bijan via the ENTERTAINER app, I know I gotta try it!

Pronounced as "Bee-Jahn", Bijan is one of the pioneers of refined Malay fine-dining in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Established since September 2003, Bijan has been living up to the modern Malaysians' expectations by offering various interesting combinations of traditional Malay recipes and modern ingredients.

Location wise, it is easily accessible as it is a mere stone throw’s away from KLCC and Bukit Bintang. Modern in its surroundings with distinctive Asian accents, Bijan is warm, yet chic; intimate yet spacious.

On the menu, we see a wide variety of Malay dishes ranging from everyday favourites to the lesser-known secrets of the Malay kitchen. The unique part is, the dishes are injected with modern elements to heighten the excitement of the senses. No doubt it is an ideal place for us to unwind a cool glass of wine while the food remains unmistakably Malay.

Based on our amazing dining experience here, we are not surprised to hear that Bijan won Best Malay Restaurant in 2004, just a year after its grand opening. It also makes its name in Malaysia Tatler’s Top 100 Restaurants, The Lonely Planet Guide to Malaysia, The Miele Guide, and more.

So... how does the Buy 1 FREE 1 deal work? It's on the ENTERTAINER app!

If you have not heard of it, The ENTERTAINER is an annual subscription app, which is packed with over 1,200 Buy 1 Get 1 FREE offers for hotels, eateries, spas, retails, attractions and more. At Bijan, we are enjoying our Buy-1-Free-1 Main Course deal via this app.

Let's check out the main courses that we enjoy for this promotion...

Opor Rusuk

Do you know the dishes in Bijan are created using a mix of recipes handed down over the generations and modern innovations on the ingredients? A good example that showcases Bijan's culinary excellence is the Slow-cooked Beef Ribs served in a thick gravy of aromatic spices, toasted coconut, palm sugar and coconut milk.

The aroma of creamy "lemak" in this dish is so rich, and the flavour is well-suffused into the rib itself. Plus, we love how the tender meat can easily fall off the bone while retaining its moisture.

Kambing Berempah Sambal Dendeng

If beef is not your first choice, how about the Baked Australian Lamb Loin? The lamb loin, being the leanest and tenderest cut among all parts, tastes extra good when it burst with flavours of turmeric, lemongrass, ginger and spices. The juicy chunks are just so irresistible even for those who are not fans of spicy food.

Ayam Masak Merah

Then we are treated with a fiery treat which is composed of sizeable pieces of Fried Chicken Simmered in a Sweet and Spicy Sauce. The thick flavourful sauce follows the traditional recipe – chillies, tomatoes and spices – that tastes very close to home. Certainly a hearty dish that goes well with the fluffy white rice.

Ikan Siakap Sos Asam

The rest of the dishes for the evening is mainly seafood (which I love!). My personal favourite goes to the Deep Fried Seabass coated with a tangy blend of Peanut and Tamarind Sauce. The refreshing tang and rich peanut tastes are so good that we wipe out the fish within minutes!

Masak Lemak Udang dengan Nenas

If you prefer something sweeter and creamier on the palate, the tangy sweet Prawns and Pineapple Chunks in Coconut Milk is recommended. The aromatic creamy gravy is further enhanced with light spices to balance out the sweetness.

Sotong Hitam Manis

Another ‘sweet’ treat commonly served in a Malay eatery is the Stir-fried Squid in Squid Ink Sauce. Cooked with chilli paste, lemongrass and squid ink, the gravy is extremely thick and coats every piece of sliced squid very well. The resulting taste? Crunchy, savoury with a hint of spice on the palate. Delicious!

Pucuk Paku Goreng Tahi Minyak

After having loads of meaty dishes, the last dish is a vegetable dish – Stir-fried Wild Fern with Chillies, Caramelised Coconut and Shrimps – which is a homey comfort food at its best. I just love how it is prepared with a fine balance of old and new flavours in one dish.
