CNY Promotions at Ee Chinese Cuisine, Eastin Petaling Jaya

Ushering the auspicious Year of Sheep in 2015, I'm back to my all-time favourite Chinese restaurant, Ee Chinese Cuisine (颐中餐厅) at Eastin Hotel PJ for a sumptuous festive feast. (You can read about my previous visit HERE).

From delectable dim sum to comforting Cantonese cuisine, I always leave the restaurant with happy stomach during each visit, so you'd see why it remains top at my list of recommendations when it comes to savouring upscaled Chinese food injected with modern interpretation.

Ee Chinese Restaurant always surprise me with new creations each and every time I visit. This round it's no exception because Master Chef Yong has crafted few special CNY menus featuring Mini Monk Jumps Over the Wall, Braised Abalones, Dried Oysters, Steamed Giant Century Grouper and more.

If you feel like dining out with your family and relatives on this special occasion, why not make it a memorable one here? Specially catered for both small family diners and large groups, you can toss to abundance and good health with few varieties of set menus:

RM538++ per table of 4 persons
RM988++ per table of 6 persons
RM1388++ to RM4688++ per table of 10 persons

Salmon with Rice Crackers Yee Sang (响铃三文捞起)

As for the obligatory prosperity toss, this year Eastin serves few varieties ranging from the luxurious Live Australia Lobster Yee Sang and Abalone Rice Crackers Yee Sang to the crowd's favourite Salmon Yee Sang.

Looking at those thick cuts of fresh salmons, I just can't wait to toss the traditional Yee Sang and
enjoy the juicy slices of salmon with crunchy bits of rice crackers and other colorful condiments!

Double Boiled Sun Dried Seafood Soup with Pigeon (海味松菇鹤盅汤)

The biggest applause of the evening goes to the double boiled dried seafood soup that is so full-bodied with herbal and oceanic goodness. Well, no Chinese meal is complete without a bowlful of hearty soup. Refreshingly light and soulfully hearty, the dried sea cucumber, fish maw and scallop give an instant lift to the overall flavours of the clear soup.

Oven Baked Live Oyster with Cheese (密制焗生蚝)

Next is something unusual that I rarely see on a CNY banquet menu, nevertheless it is a welcoming change from the usual duck or prawn dishes. Lightly baked with cheese, this freshly shackled oyster melts in the mouth beautifully with its oozing juice upon each bite. Best for those who don't favour the raw taste.

Poached Capon Traditional Style (白切阉鸡)

Back to tradition, we have a very well-thought poultry dish that is smoked after being poached. The meat on its own is extra flavourful, tender and moist. A dip into the two Chef's special spicy-sour sauces give a different taste to the senses, without masking the natural flavour of the succulent meat.

Baked Cod Fish with Egg Caviar (赛螃鳕鱼)

Sitting on a bed of pearly white egg caviar, the presentation of the fish is equally alluring. As soon as I take the first mouthful of caramelized baked cod, I'm truly impressed by the crispy glazed outer layer, followed by the fresh, flaky white flesh.

Braised Cabbage with Eight Treasures (花开富贵)

Moving on to the next dish that symbolizes great health and wealth,  the Chef has gone great lengths to prepare this painstakingly "bowl" of cabbage stuffed with 8 types of premium seafood and popular Chinese ingredients.

Digging into the "treasure" stuffed in the cabbage, we are delighted to find huge chunks of dried oyster, scallop, mushroom, salted egg, lotus seeds, prawns, sea cucumber and chestnut that beautifully retain the freshness and crunchiness in the mouth.

Fried Rice with Seafood and Rice Crackers (鱼子脆米炒丝苗)

Surprise comes one after another. A healthier choice from the usual waxed meat rice, we have a bowlful of aromatic golden seafood fried rice layered with rice crackers to give an extra crunch to the rice. The best thing is, it is generously topped with a whole layer of my favourite Japanese fish roe! What a beautiful yet comforting combination it is.

Double Boiled White Fungus, Gingko and Hasma served with Sweet Duet (雪耳金果炖雪蛤拼美点)

To end our celebratory CNY dinner on a sweet note, we are treated with the crowd's favourite hot dessert soup which is said to have soothing benefits to the body, as well as the chef's specially crafted fried pastries of the evening.

For those who love something exotic, the crispy thin pastry married with robust durian filling is definitely a stand-out. The pastry has a very buttery outer crisp layer and fills the room with durian flavours before I even fork into it. Unfortunately, the real durian flesh is blended so finely that I can't really enjoy the texture of the durian.

Last but not least, the deep fried Chinese glutinous rice cake roll is perfectly done with crispy exterior and soft, sticky rice cake inside, at its slightest sweetness.

Verdict:
1. Personally, the food at Ee Chinese Cuisine tops my favourite list among fine Chinese restaurants.
2. Taste and presentation wise, I have no complaints at all as I've always loved the way the Chefs here bring out the flavours of each ingredient in unique ways.
3. Pricewise, it falls on a higher range, but it's a good premium restaurant to visit for Cantonese authenticity.

CNY Yee Sang Promotion @ Grand Imperial Chinese Restaurant

It's the best time of the year again! Guinness has recently collaborated with Grand Imperial Group of restaurants to create a special Guinness Chinese New Year Banquet menu, in which 8 auspicious courses of meal are exclusively paired with Guinness Stout in different ways to create the best winning taste.

#1 Yee Sang with Silver Fish

We begin our gastronomical journey with the signature Yee Sang to tantalize the tastebuds. Topped with crispy silver fish, this festive dish is lightly spicy and tangy with robust flavours of fresh fruits and veggies. A nice rendition from the traditional one, and well injected with local taste!

#2 Braised Bird's Nest with Fresh Crab Meat

Taking a step further to replace shark's fins in the menu, we are treated with a luxurious indulgence. Loaded with truffles, it's my first time having savoury bird's nest here ;) It is nicely done with chunky crab meats lending its natural seafood flavours to the soup. Best for this festive season!

 #3 Roasted Whole Suckling Pig

Next is a symbolic dish that is specially served during celebratory occasions. The roasted suckling pig has an even layer of caramelized fats beneath the crispy skin. Despite of being a tad gristly for me, it is definitely a favourite among those who fancy meats.

#4 Steamed Pomfret in Traditional Style

Topped with caramelized onions, minced meat and parsley, the traditional-style steamed fish in light soy sauce has a very mild flavour and beautifully retains the rich taste of its succulent white flesh. If it's fish that you fancy, nothing will satisfy more than the fresh catch.

#5 Fresh Water King Prawn in Casserole

Also, try out the crispy gigantic king prawns which are certainly well worth the praise
with its crispy charred skin and juicy, crunchy flesh.

Best paired with a glass of Guinness dry stout!

#6 Braised Sliced Abalone with Black Moss and Dried Oyster

This is followed by another symbolic festive dish that resembles wealth and good luck. The dish, with its standard ingredients, is made more prominent with the thick hoisin sauce, that coats the CNY treasures well.

#7 Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausages and Dried Meat in Hong Kong Style

The colorful assortments comprise of preserved sausages, duck, and pork, accompanied by vegetables to complement with the heavy flavours. Served with lightly stewed rice, this heartwarming and comforting dish is very popular among the diners of the evening and extremely fast to whip up.

#8 Steamed Nian Gao with Deep Fried Sweet Potato Filo Pastries

The dinner is incomplete with sweet treats, and therefore we have duo combination of desserts that brings elegance in the traditional way. The paper-thin sheets on the outer layer of Filo Pastry provides a crispy biting enjoyment, whereas the coating of shredded coconut adds a biting sensation to the mildly sweet Chinese glutinous rice cake. Both are equally delectable and light on the palate!

#9 Chilled Fresh Mango Puree with Sago and Pomelo

Finally, let's wash it down with a refreshing fruity treat that encompasses mango, sago and pomelo.

Guinness Banquet Menu
13 January - 5 March 2015
RM1888 nett for 10 pax
- 8 courses Chinese meal
- Two quarts of Guinness stout
- Two sets of exclusive Guinness ang pow

Upbeat Health Bar @ Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur

If you need a quick energy boost to keep you awake through the day, why not skip the caffeine and get your fix of cold-pressed juices at Upbeat Health Bar instead? Located at the Kuala Lumpur city centre, it is a popular spot among the corporate crowd and healthy goers who are seeking for healthier meal alternatives.

Aimed to change the way people eat on-the-go, Upbeat Health Bar kiosk is constructed in an open kitchen concept so that patrons can see how their nutritious protein smoothies, cold-pressed juices and tortilla wraps are prepared freshly here. A bonus for customers who share the same values, there are plenty of SHAPE and Men's Health magazines on the table for your reading.

I love how they display their detailed menu with beverages content breakdowns and calorie indicators so that we know exactly what and how much we are consuming! To achieve ultimate health, Upbeat totally avoids refined sugar and unhealthy fat by using solely natural sweeteners such as banana and honey.

PROTEIN SHAKE
Peanut Butter Goodness (Small) @ RM9.90 (261 kcal)
Add-on: Chia Seed @ RM2

One of the bestsellers is the powerful concoction of Peanut Butter, Banana, Chocolate Whey and Milk. Creamy and nourishing, I'm surprised that it tastes so delicious and thick that I'd ditch my cup of latte for this!

Using only premium class of Whey Protein that gives low carb and high protein content, gym lovers from Fitness First, a neighbour to the kiosk, can hop over after their training sessions for an energy boost with the protein shakes. Don't forget to add on Chia Seed, the superfood for high protein and omega-3 essential fatty acid content!

Displayed on a separate sheet of leaflet, you not only get to know what you're drinking, but also the nutrient composition of each beverage. Among the exciting flavours such as Mocha, Cocoa, Green Tea, Mango and Berries, you should also check out the popular ones including Berry Slim and Cocoa Delight.

Upbeat believes that cold-pressed juice is a great addition to a daily routine as an excellent alternative to sugary drinks, therefore it introduces 8 types of cold-pressed raw fruit juicesThey are cold-pressed from 100% raw and fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure all the enzymes and vitamins are still live and kicking. In this way, it yields 3 to 5 times more nutrients than other conventional methods!

Drink Me Skinny @ RM11.90 (350ml)

True to its name, it is a refreshing and cleansing concoction of grapefruit, lemon and orange that can help cleanse, detoxify and rejuvenate the body because of its extremely high antioxidant content. Embodying citrus sweetness in the mouth, the juice has a little bitter aftertaste.

Freshly Prepared Cold Pressed Raw Juices
From Left to Right:

Golden Immune Booster (Ginger, pineapple, carrot) @ RM9.90
Keep Calm & Detox (Apple, pineapple, cucumber, ginger) @ RM9.90

Beet The Flu (Apple, beet, carrot, celery) @ RM11.90
Liver Saver (Bittergourd, apple, celery, cucumber) @ RM11.90

The juices are cold pressed freshly at the kiosk, so don't worry about the freshness as they can be kept chilled for up to 3 days. They are served at Awesome Canteen too! Here the healthy light bites are limited to a few varieties of tortilla wraps, each equally balanced with nutrients and able to deliver sufficient energy with minimal fat.

Mushroom Galore Tortilla Wrap @ RM8.90 (413 kcal)

I am one of those who don't fancy meats, so the grilled mushroom wrap is exactly what I need for a healthy change! Wrapped in Mission flour tortilla, it is loaded with egg goodness alongside onions, lettuce and light sour cream.

Gourmet Chicken Tortilla Wrap @ RM8.90 (495 kcal)
Add-on: Whole Wheat Tortilla @ RM1

Upbeat does not serve any processed ingredients as the owner believes real food is the key of healthy eating. Lean smoked chicken breast is a great protein booster, ideally served as a post-workout meal. For the health conscious, whole wheat tortilla may interest you apart from the zesty secret house sauce used as a replacement of mayonnaise.

Don't forget to pair your tortilla wrap with juices as the perfect meal combination!

To reboot your body to a healthier lifestyle, let's try out Upbeat Juice Cleansing Detox Program! It is all about having 6 bottles of juices a day-- Each bottle of 500ml at 2-3 hours interval. In between the juices, one should drink a lot of water to 'flush' away the toxins.

Juices include:
1. Powerhouse Green: Kale, Organic Spinach, Romaine, Parsley, Cucumber, Celery, Apple, Lemon
2. Glowing Citrus: Grapefruit, Pear, Ginger
3. Jade Green: Organic Bok Choy, Organic Spinach, Parsley, Celery, Apple, Lemon
4. Spicy Limeade: Lemon, Lime, Cayenne Pepper, Organic Agave, Filtered Water
5. Red Beauty: Kale, Organic Beet, Carrot
6. Vanilla Almond: Almond, Vanilla Beans, Organic Agave, Water

For a start, I think I should begin with a 3-days cleanse plan! Since the freshly prepared juices can only be refrigerated for up to 2 days, I can have them delivering the supply to my doorstep every 2 days! (Delivery at KLCC area is free)

With Upbeat Health Bar, now I believe healthy food and beverages can be very exciting and full of surprises. Let's start to eat clean now and make a change in our lifestyle!

Verdict:
1. Healthy food and juices are NOT just for those who are watching their weights, it is about a whole new lifestyle that leads to a healthy self which I believe Upbeat is doing great to influence Malaysians towards this direction.
2. Eating healthy at Upbeat can be very satisfying and cost even cheaper than the coffee and cafe food.

Party of The Century: Glamourous 1920's

#OOTD: Headpiece, jewellery and dress from BeautyOne.com.my

Hello people! Can you recognize me? Haha. Courtesy to Empire City for the pair of VVIP tickets,
I was all dolled up for this grandest, largest party in town---Party of The Century!

In celebrating the development of latest township in Damansara Perdana, the Empire City had hosted over 6,000 guests and international hot stars from local and abroad to its soft launch event.

This party was like a dream come true to me, because I managed to meet international hot stars from around the globe including PARIS HILTON and Hong Kong TVB artists! She looked so sweet in her vintage 1920's sequin dress. Wanted to take a picture with her, but the crowd was too overwhelming...

Nevertheless, I was lucky to meet my favourite TVB artists from Hong Kong---
Sharon Chan (陈敏芝), Him Law (羅仲謙) and Eliza Sum (岑麗香),

....and mingled around them when they were busy taking pictures.

What a coincidence to wear a color-matching outfit with Him Law!

Super love this shot, and I even posted it on Facebook and realised that alot of my friends are Him's fans too!

Guest artists from Taiwan made special appearance to this glamourous event too! Finally I met Freya Lim (林凡), the person who sang my favourite song, "明明爱你". I asked whether I could selfie with her, and she was like "Yes yes I loveee selfie!" HAHA Super friendly hor!!

Say Hello to Ke You Lun (柯有倫) too!

Nice to meet Elanne Kong (江若琳) who flew all the way here from Hong Kong!
She looked more stunning in real life, and really nice as I had a short conversation with her.

Hahah. Acted like sisters and took selfie together

After walking down the red carpet, all the artists were gathered at the VVIP guest area and
at that moment we just couldn't wait to enjoy the amazing performances of the evening!

First to appear on stage was 2AM, the ever popular K-Pop group from Korea.
I bet their appearance could easily melt the hearts of all girls at the party!

Next up was Mark Vincent, the winner of Australia's Got Talent 2009, and he sang "You Raise Me Up"
during the evening. His marvellous performance indeed impressed the audience very much.

Surprises came one after another, as there were acrobatic show and drum performance, followed by
various mesmerizing performances from Taboo from Black Eye Peas, Paris Hilton and DJ Ken.

Overall, it was a fun party to mingle around with the fellow bloggers and take hundreds of pictures!

Gorgeous Renee, Jenny and yours truly.

Nice hanging out with you girls throughout the night too!

Last but not least, let me spam a close shot of myself :P
