Thai Syok Thai Food & Yakitori BBQ (泰爽辣泰式海鲜餐厅) @ Sunway Mentari, PJ : Chinese New Year Special & Signature Dishes

Have you ever celebrated Chinese New Year in Thai style? Well, you can now at Thai Syok!

Located in Sunway Mentari, Thai Syok restaurant is easily accessible through LDP highway. This area seems rather quiet during weekend evenings, but I notice that Thai Syok is very crowded especially past 8pm.

A clean and modern interior, perfect for casual dining.

Chinese New Year Special: Thai Inspired Salmon Yee Sang @ RM38 (Half Portion) / RM68 (Full Portion)

It is my first time trying out Thai style Yee Sang. Apart from the usual Chinese ingredients (Crisps, shredded vegetables and raw fish), it is added with Thai special spicy chilli and lime dressing, creating a more refreshing combination, bursting with sweet, tangy and spicy flavours. 

Marinated Pork Belly (3 skewers) @ RM12

I remember BBQ skewer is my favourite street food in Bangkok, and I am glad to find the similar taste in Thai Syok. Well-marinated and grilled to perfection, the pork belly is our favourite of the evening! I heard that their grilled pork neck is equally delicious but it is quickly sold out.

Soft, juicy and well-balanced with layers of lean meat and fats.

Marinated Chicken Wing (3 skewers) @ RM15

Thai Syok Pandan Chicken @ RM17.90

Next up is another great appetizer that I personally love for its sweet-savoury taste. Wrapped in pandan leaves, the chunks of coconut-milk-marinated chicken are so tender and addictive, leaving me craving for more!

Thai Style Boneless Chicken Feet

If you like something lighter, the mixture of sour, sweet and spicy flavours of chicken feet makes it very appetizing as it is generously loaded with onion, chilli and cilantro. The nice crunchy texture is an added bonus.

Deep Fried Pork Knuckle @ RM58

For mains, I'd recommend the house signature Thai Deep Fried Pork Knuckle. It is a perfect combination of crunchy crackling and tender meat, best dipped into their homemade sweet soy-vinegar dipping sauce.

As for the seafood dishes, they are mostly served on charcoal iron pan.

Lemon Steamed Siakap (Seasonal Price)

Deep Fried Garoupa Fish in 3 Tastes of Spicy, Sour and Sweet (Seasonal Price)

The fresh steamed fish is flavour-packed with lemon juice, herbs and chilli. I am not a fan of spicy food, hence prefer the deep fried fish in creamy coconut curry that is not too sweet to my liking. The peanut toppings add a nice crunch to the fish. 

Prawn Cooked in Coconut Milk (Seasonal Price)

Another crowd's favourite of the evening is the hotplate prawns steamed in coconut milk. The aromatic creamy sauce itself hits the spot; simply delicious and best eaten with steaming hot bowl of white rice.

Red Rubies with Jackfruit in Coconut Syrup @ RM5.20

Despite of such a heavy meal, there is still room for dessert. Generously loaded with coconut milk and crunchy chestnuts, this colorful bowl of Thai "ais kacang" is so cooling and pleasant to the throat, especially after several spicy and sour dishes. 

Thai Milk Tea @ RM6 / Pandan Lemongrass with Cincau @ RM6 / Green Milk Tea Malacca Sugar @ RM5.90

What not to be missed here is the original Thai milk tea, which is aromatic and lightly sweet. The green milk tea, on the other hand, is slightly sweeter, but equally worth a try if you like the aroma. 

1. Overall, it is a casual and comforting dining experience. And I'm looking forward for another visit because its menu has so many items that I have not tried! 
2. Surely you'd feel syok (happy and excited) and enjoy the fiery hot, sweet and sour Thai food here. 
3. Must try: BBQ Pork Neck/Shoulder Skewers, Prawn in Coconut Milk, Pandan Chicken
