Ramadan Buka Puasa at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur Hotel

The festive season is back! From 6 June till 5 July 2016, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur Hotel is celebrating the spirit of Ramadan with a full spread of homemade local delights from different states, themed "A Journey of Heritage: With the Celebrated Kampong Boys"

A group photo of the great men behind the kampong dishes.

The scrumptious Ramadan buffet this year features a myriad of heritage reminiscent dishes specially crafted by the five celebrated "kampong boys", and I am glad to be able to taste the homemade flavours from Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor all under one roof at Serena Brasserie, all-day dining restaurant.

Nasi Minyak Rendang Tok by Chef de Cuisine, Suhaimi Md Tasir

No Malaysians can live without the staple rice, don't you agree? Slightly sweet and full of spice, the traditional Nasi Minyak is sure to warm the stomach and pair well with the thick Rendang or creamy Gulai dishes. Most importantly, it is a heartwarming 'get-together' dish for Perak-ians that you shouldn't miss during this Ramadan!

Asam Pedas Daging Tetel by Banquet Chef Yusof Salamat

Another noteworthy dish that tantalises the tastebud is the sweet and sour beef shank, which is a pleasant change from the customary asam pedas fish dish. Simple, classic and tummy-comforting, each mouthful of the thick gravy exudes strong aroma of chilli, tamarind juice, lemongrass and ginger flower!

Udang Masak Lemak Cili by Malay Chef Yusman Yahaya

For those who enjoy something milder, the flavoursome prawns cooked with pineapples and spiced coconut gravy definitely makes a great option. As the dish carries a strong remembrance of the chef's fond memories of his mum's cooking back in Negeri Sembilan, I am sure the flavours he created will bring your heart closer to home too.

Laksa Johor by Executive Sous Chef, Abdul Razak

Laksa variations are aplenty in Malaysia, but the Johorian version here exudes a richness in aroma and flavours unlike any other. It is nothing sourish like the usual laksa I have, but the chef creates an extra creamy and full-bodied white gravy of boiled fish and coconut milk, topped with al dente pasta noodles. Simply delicious!

Apam Balik by Executive Pastry Chef Chan Eng Hua

A signature recipe from the Chef's Peranakan home, I can already enjoy whiffs of fresh bakes lingering in the air when I am at this live cooking station. Each piece of the tender bake is warm and chewy with its moist, fluffy texture. Simple and nostalgic!

Ulam-ulaman and Kuih-muih

Apart from the 5 signature Kampong dishes served at the live cooking stations, the buffet spread also features a myriad of local ciusine to bring the best of traditional home-cooked flavours. From sweet to spicy, I am spoilt with so many choices that tantalize the palate!

Rendang Campor

Gulai Telur Itik

Ketupat Sotong

Pajeri Nenas

Stir Fried Chicken in Kung Po Style

"Har Lok" Prawn

Sayur Buncis Goreng Telur

Bubur Lambok Ayam with Condiments

What not to be missed on the extensive buffet spread is the thick, flavourful Bubur Lambok Ayam, which is good to go on its own, or served with traditional condiments. Don't forget to try the Margarine Lemang and Ketupat Nasi too.

Lemang with Spicy Dried Chicken and Beef Floss

As the finale of the sumptuous meal, we are treated with premium quality durian from Bentong. Each piece is so creamy, sweet and finger licking good! Imagine you can eat all the durians to your content at the buffet, that's perfect for you durian lovers out there.

  1. It would not be reasonable in the event that we compliment all the blog compositions yet not the creator. Incredible Work!
