Harriston Chocolate - DIY Your Own Chocolate Experience

Hi! Can you smell the sweetness in the air? I'm making chocolates today.

Well, who doesn't love chocolates? Mention chocolates and we'd think of the best chocolatiers in the world such as Belgium, Switzerland, Germany etc. But do you know that Harriston, a Malaysian homegrown chocolatier has its own success story to tell too?

Established by a family of dedicated chocolate makers since 2005, Harriston Chocolate is now one of the biggest chocolatiers in Malaysia who serves more than 150 chocolate variants to over 4 million customers from 80 countries around the world.

The first thing to do here is to understand how chocolate is made.

At Harriston Signature outlet in Cheras, it feels like stepping into a luxurious chocolate emporium here! All chocolates are made from the finest cocoa beans based on time-honoured methods and innovative recipes.

And the outlet is flooded with international tourists who often buy huge boxes of our local chocolates home. Harriston has packing services for gifting / souvenir purposes in store too.

We all know the traditional White, Milk and Dark Chocolates. But have you heard of Ruby Chocolate? Harriston Chocolate is the first in Southeast Asia to launch this newfound chocolate gem and I am excited to taste it now!

Thanks to Barry Callebaut for discovering such gift from nature; Ruby Chocolate is completely a new experience to me! Made from Ruby cocoa beans, it is naturally pinkish red in color -- no coloring or flavouring added to create that berry fruitiness. I love its tart flavour which does not feel overcloying on the palate.

What I also like here is the uniquely-flavoured collection which makes us Malaysians proud.-- we see the first-in-the-world Durian and Tongkat Ali chocolates which can only be found exclusively at Harriston!

Harriston also creates several interesting flavours such as curry, chilli and ginger infused chocolates

Thanks to these creative chocolate products, I am sure it would attract more people to learn and enjoy the richness of Malaysian natural and cultural heritage.

Here are some of the artisan chocolates
displayed at the chocolate bar.

They can even customise chocolates according to your preference.
Ideal for corporate events, door gifts etc!

If you are a tourist in Malaysia, I'm sure you'd love to bring home the chocolates packed in our iconic Malaysian landmark box.

Production Kitchen

Oh did I forget to mention that there is an open kitchen here too? Whether you are a chocolate connoisseur or casual eater, it would be an eye-opening experience to discover the magic of chocolate making at Harriston.

Here we see a purpose-built see-through production kitchen and kiosk which allows us to watch every process of chocolate production, from conching to tempering, then moulding, and finally packing. I personally love observing the process flow, especially when add-ins are being put into each personalised chocolate bar.

It's fun making my very own chocolates using the premium chocolate paste and moulding them to a cute shape - Orang Utan!

At the end of the fun-filled workshop, I can even bring home my handmade chocolates and let my parents try my masterpiece 😛

I'm a certified chocolate maker now, haha just kidding!

Harriston Signature Cafe

Next, it's time to chill after all the hard work in making my own chocolates! At this cosy corner of Harriston store, I am enjoying the sweet treats with a cup of hot chocolate in their Signature Cafe. Glad to see that they serve a wide range of unique beverages here such as Nitro Coffee, 58% Dark Chocolate Drink, savoury Salted Caramel Coffee and more.

58% Dark Chocolate Drink
made with luscious dark chocolate blocks and milk.

Best paired with the lovely house-made desserts like muffins and durian ice cream.

Verdict:
Overall, it is a heavenly delicious experience of exploring the taste of real chocolates in the uniquely Malaysian way. Harriston chocolates are perfect for gifting and personal enjoyment without burning a hole in the wallet.

I'd definitely revisit Harriston Signature Cafe for its Hot Chocolate Drink and delicious Durian chocolates.
