[TRAVEL] 3D2N Itinerary in La Vela Khao Lak @ Phuket, Thailand

Welcome to the paradise of Khao Lak!

The beach is calling! Island vacation is one of my most favourite holidays and I am so excited to visit Phuket again (the last time I came was around pre-tsunami time - almost 16 years ago!). This round, our trip is a little more special as it is an adventurous combination of road trippin', beach getaway and food hunting.

Here's our 4D3N itinerary in Khao Lak:
Day 1: Arrival at La Vela, seafood buffet dinner / cocktail night at Kokulo Beach Club
Day 2: Breakfast, morning swim, massage session at Spa Qaqula, chill by the pool, food hunting around La Vela
Day 3: Breakfast, beach photoshooting, chill at Cotton Café & Library, food hunting in Phuket Old Town
Day 4: Phuket Old Town – Street art hunting, café hopping, etc

Travelling Tips:
Best time to visit Phuket: November to February (coolest season)
Best time to avoid Phuket: Mid-May to October (monsoon season)

*Our trip took place in July but it was not affected by the occasional rains (perhaps we were lucky; it only rained early in the morning or during late evening).

How to get to La Vela:
1 hour's drive from Phuket International Airport
Airport transfer service is provided by La Vela at additional charges.
*Recommended to rent a car at the airport for greater flexibility and convenience.

So what brings me here to Phuket? It's Khao Lak in Phang-nga! If you prefer a more pristine beach with lesser crowd, just skip the overrated Patong Beach in Phuket town and come to Khao Lak. Do you know that Khao Lak has long been one of the loveliest barefoot beach escapes in the South of Thailand?

Imagine yourself being surrounded by sandy bliss, shimmering ocean, clear blue skies and tranquility amidst the beautiful sunset -- That's what I experience throughout my 3D2N stay in La Vela. An utterly blissful retreat for my mind, soul and body.

Although La Vela is a relatively new resort in Khao Lak (It just turned 2 in June 2019), it is getting more and more popular lately, I guess I know why – I must say that La Vela has done an amazing job in various areas and my overall stay here has far exceeded my expectations!

LOCATION

Anchored on Khao Lak’s most serene stretch of beach, Bang Niang, La Vela exudes a rustic charm on its own. Beyond the modern architecture, La Vela is the home to exquisitely pristine beach, stunningly huge free-form swimming pool as well as soul-healing spa -- and that's exactly the kind of holiday I need.

Travelling Tips:
Some may find it a bit far from the airport but you can make airport transfer arrangement in La Vela, so no worries about catching your flight.

ROOM

The best part of a luxurious beach resort like this is the picturesque view you can get from your room – either a panoramic ocean view or pool view. There are 8 types of rooms in total, ranging from the ultra-luxe Pool Access Grand Seaview and Deluxe Seaview to the more basic Deluxe Poolside and affordable comfort of Deluxe -- I'm sure you can find something that matches your budget.

Pool Access Grand Seaview: My Crib for 3D2N

Of course, I don’t come to La Vela for an average beach stay, but for the surreal combination of architecture, location, style and comfort. I’m here for the best stay in La Vela – the Pool Access Grand Seaview! I’d strongly recommend it for honeymoon, anniversary or proposal trips!

The room offers all the luxury I’d ever crave for in its large 60 sq. metre space – a cosy king-sized bed, walk-in closet, sleek sofa, smart TV, large fridge, coffee machine and most importantly, high speed Wi-Fi connection.

More surprises are awaiting behind those sliding doors right in front of my bed… The Pool Access Grand Seaview room is the only sea-facing room here with direct access to the pool. That’s why I love my evening dip in the pool while enjoying the panoramic sea view, accompanied by soothing melody of ocean waves.

Did I forget to mention that there is a private terrace with sofa and stylish Jacuzzi outside my room too? Perfect for some lovey dovey moments with your loved ones :P

By the way, buffet breakfast is included too. Awesome selection of the staple Thai offerings, American breakfast options, bread, pastries etc. Remember to try the house Egg Benedict, you'll be surprised with the Asian touch in it -- Highly recommended!

KOKULO BEACH CLUB
Opening Hours: 10am - 12am daily

La Vela’s in-house restaurant cum bar, Kokulo Beach Club is the perfect beachside venue to enjoy good food and crafted beverages along with calming sea breezes and serenading live band performances.

Signature Fire Show by the Beach
*Available on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8.30pm
*No entrance fee required

Not only that, we are lucky to be able to catch the stunning fire performance with a series of firework sparkles being the main highlight of this Thai cultural show. What an amazing evening spent by the beach!

Freshest Seafood Buffet by the Beach

Look at my fresh lobster from the Saturday Seafood Buffet promotion (THB1,390 per pax)! I am surprised to see the generous amount of seafood available on the buffet spread – salmon, prawn, oyster, sashimi and lots more.

If you are here on a Saturday evening, don’t miss out this dock-to-dish seafood feast!

.....and end the perfect evening with some boozes by the beach!

SPA QAQULA
Opening Hours: 9am - 7pm daily

My beach vacation is not complete without a soul-healing spa experience at Spa QAQULA in the resort. Inspired from Takuapa Old Town; the authentic traditional therapies available here include ritualistic thermal bathing, therapeutic massages (facial / foot / back / full body), body scrub and body wrap treatments.

Aromatherapy Massage under the Stars

Have you tried any massage treatment under the starry sky? Here you can! Every room is designed with starry ceiling, so I manage to let my soul and mind free, and truly immerse myself throughout the full-body aromatherapy massage treatment. Highly recommended!

COTTON CAFÉ AND LIBRARY
Opening Hours: 10am - 7pm daily

If you prefer spending time reading or sipping on a cup of coffee by the pool, Cotton Café is probably the most ideal spot to sit back and relax for the entire afternoon. Love the laidback vibes and Instagram-worthy nautical décor here!

FUN BEYOND LA VELA

There are so many things to explore outside of La Vela! Hipster cafes and local food are aplenty here if you know where to find them. We manage to try out several Michelin Bib Gourmand rated restaurants nearby – they are little hidden gems in town which are exclusively handpicked by MICHELIN guide inspectors for their very good value for money. Of course, the food is amazing too. Will share with you more in the next blog post!

VERDICT
Verdict:
1. Personally, I wish to have extended my stay here. 3D2N in such a paradise is just not enough!
2. Whether you fancy a dip in the pool or a good soak in the sun, La Vela is the place to unwind and fulfill your wildest holiday fantasy.
3. Recommended for its surreal combination of architecture, location, style and comfort. Will definitely stay here again during my next vacay to Khao Lak!
