Sanzaru Izakaya & Bar (三猿酒廠) @ Bukit Jalil, KL

Kanpai! It's a chilling evening with good yakitori, cold beers and karaoke!

Are you one of the avid bar hoppers at Japanese Izakaya bars in town? Good news! Sanzaru Izakaya is one of the newest kid on the block in Bukit Jalil, allowing you enjoy the old-fashioned Japanese grilled bar culture like a true Japanese!

Mention "Izakaya", it means you'll get to enjoy plenty of small dishes that go along with alcoholic drinks.

Helmed by Chef Paul Chooi, an experienced chef who has been practising Japanese culinary for more than 10 years in Switzerland, Sanzaru Izakaya & Bar is a great place to unwind after work or chill with mates during weekends over glasses of icy cold draft beer and hot, flavourful Japanese-style meat skewers.

The warm, lively atmosphere in Sanzaru feels inviting and cosy.
It is family-friendly too!

For first timers, try the classic combination: Yakitori + Beer.

On the Izakaya menu, there are many options of perfectly-grilled meat (pork and chicken) as well as vegetable skewers available here. Best paired with different sake and beer served in the house.

From afar, I can already smell the delicious aroma of the grilled skewers at the open-concept kitchen.

Look at the variety of grilled items here, so delicious! Whether you are a fan of
seafood, pork, chicken or beef, there is surely something for you!

Pork Skewers @ RM5 per stick
*Must try* Bacon wrapped with enoki mushroom, pork neck and pork shoulder

So juicy and flavourful! Good to go with icy cold beer.

The balance of lean meat and fatty layer hits just right on spot.

Assorted Chicken Skewers, available from RM3 per stick onwards

Vegetable Skewers @ RM4 per stick
*Must try* Shiitake (Mushroom) and Zucchini

Nasu (Aubergine) @ RM8
Even simple grilled vegetables like these are so well-executed and punch packed with flavours.
Highly recommended!

Surumeika Shioyaki @ RM18

Personally, I'd prefer grilled seafood items to meat and I am glad to find alot of options here such as salmon belly, king prawn. mackerel, shishamo, scallop and more. One of my favourites is the Grilled Squid with Himalayan Salt, so chewy and rich in smoky flavours!

You also can't go wrong with the fresh butterflied prawns here. Amazingly sweet and crunchy!

Fried Miso Pig's Tail (日本味噌炸豬尾) @ RM22

Grilled items aside, hog lovers should also try one of Sanzaru's recommended dish -- deep-fried pig tail marinated in a sweet and salty miso sauce. Don't forget to pair it with a dollop of the special sauce for that spiced savoury kick.

All the items above are great to pair with Japanese sake, whisky, beer etc.
Trust me, you just can't skip your booze this round.

Grilled Wagyu Beef Platter (炭烤和牛拼盤) @ RM168

This platter includes:
- 200g grilled Australian beef with Chef's special sauce
- Kushiyaki (3 different types of grilled skewers)
- Pickled Cucumbers (Kyuri asazuke)
- Takowasabi
- Miso salad
- Edamame

If you prefer something for communal sharing, try the pork, seafood or beef platter here. Since it is a celebratory dinner, we have decided to go for the premium waygu beef platter which features 200g sliced wagyu. Very well-seasoned and grilled to perfection, the beef is at its juiciest and melts perfectly in the mouth.

Seriously we just can't get enough of this. Besides, it is accompanied with refreshing salad and edamame to cut through the meatiness of the dish.

Takowasabi (Also available ala carte @ RM10)

If you enjoy the spicy kick from wasabi, you'd love this seasoned raw octopus drenched in creamy wasabi sauce.

Kakuni Ramen (日式角煮拉麵)

Not a fan of grilled stuff? Don't worry, Sanzaru has something for those who prefer basic Japanese staples such as ramen, don (rice), salad and more. To my delight, the ramen soup base here is very rich in porky flavours, while the al dente homemade noodles do not soften as fast as I'd thought. Indeed a tummy comforting bowl, especially during cold evenings.
